Cyberattacks on Oiltanking GmbH Group and Mabanaft Group left 233 German gas stations unable to accept payments while also leaving the two oil companies at partial production capacity. In other cyber security news, multiple airports in Columbia and Peru had their employee data compromised.

Conti ransomware targets KP Snacks

UK snack provider KP Snacks suffered a cyberattack adding delays in their supply chain. The Conti ransomware group posted the stolen information on their leak site, which contains payment card and other sensitive information on employees and clients. They’ve given a 5-day deadline for the ransom to be paid before leaking additional data. The company is still working to restore their systems to normal operation but believes it could take months to fully recover.

British Council suffers data breach

Researchers discovered the sensitive information for several hundred thousand students belonging to the British Council in a repository that required no authentication. The breach was discovered at the beginning of December and confirmed by officials of the British Council. It’s unknown how long the repository had been exposed to public access or who had viewed the detailed data.

Data breach compromises employee data of Columbian and Peruvian airports

Researchers discovered an unsecured AWS server containing an alarming amount of sensitive information belonging to employees of multiple airports in Columbia and Peru. The unsecured server contained 4 years’ worth of and was owned by Swedish company Securitas. The owners may itself have been the original victim of the cyberattack. Amongst the data were employee records, flight and plane details and GPS location data for many different airports and flight facilities.

Greek telecom organizations fined for data breach

Nearly 2 years after falling victim to a cyberattack that compromised data for millions of customers, two telecom subsidiaries received fines from the Greek data protection authority. The combined fines of $9 million dollars were leveraged against the OTE Group, which is the largest tech company in Greece. The investigation also revealed that both organizations failed to properly maintain the required standards for data security and holding times.

German oil companies suffer cyberattacks

The operation for two oil production and refinement companies in Germany were thrown into disarray following a cyberattack. The firms, Oiltanking GmbH Group and Mabanaft Group, also revealed that they were continuing to run at partial capacity though they did repell the attack enough to keep their doors open. The largest disruption comes in the form of disallowing customers from completing transactions with payment cards at 233 different gas locations across Germany.
