Today's the day! Thanks for this reminder, superssjdan.

It's so important to always update your applications to get the latest and greatest features - and protection.
And on that note...time for ME to check for updates!

Firefox
Firefox released an update to 10.0.1, calling it a Critical Security Update.  If you are unsure whether you received this update, you may click on the Help menu and then "About Firefox".  The resulting window will tell you whether you have the proper update or not.  Still on something like 3.x?  Visit Firefox to download the latest version.

Adobe Flash Player*
You can go to Adobe's About Flash Page to find out what version you have in use by that browser and what version is the newest.

Adobe Reader*
The most up to date version of Adobe Reader at this time is Adobe Reader X version 10.1.2.  You can check for Reader updates by opening Adobe Reader either from your Desktop or Star Menu, clicking on Help, then Check for Updates...  If your current version is Adobe Reader 9 (or below), you will want to strongly consider going to download version 10 directly unless you know for absolute certain that you need to use the older version.  When in doubt, upgrade.

You can get the download for the newest version from this location.  Be wary:  Adobe will try to bundle in Other Stuff (for example, McAfee Security Scan, which exists for the sole purpose of finding an alleged security hole and trying to use it as justification to convince you to buy McAfee).  It's in your interest to UNCHECK the box of the additional offering to speed up the download and avoid munging up your computer with extra, unnecessary software.

(* Direct links not included due to Adobe restrictions.)

Java
At the time of this writing, the newest official version is Java 6 Revision 31.  The newest pre-release is 7 r3.  This is VERY new (This week?  Today even?) and has some security bug fixes, so should be updated swiftly.  You can go to this page to verify your current version and be advised whether you need a new one.  If you do need a newer version, the page will provide you the correct download.

Remember, patching is like maintaining your car.  Sure you've got seatbelts and airbags in case you get into an accident, but keeping your car in good shape so your wheel doesn't fly off is an even better deal.  And patching is free!

So do it.  Now.
