I'm not a computer guru... just a typical user. I noticed the other day that a widows icon appeared

on my task bar. It says it is to update for WINDOWS 10 - which I have no interest in.

Now a few days later.. I get a msg that it can't connect to windows auto updates. I tried to go in manually, and it won't even let me in the file.

Also... the last 2 times I tried to shut my computer off  IT TAKES FOREVER!!  I have no idea if these things are related.. seems far fetched but I would love to know if there is a virus or something that is involved with this windows icon I can't seem to get off the task bar.

any insight is greatly appreciated!

Hi,
If you are talking about the "Get Windows 10" little Window's App Icon

that is showing up on some computers on the task bar, it is legit.

As for removing it if you are not interested I know there has been a post on this site with instructions.  You can however just Google "GWX TASK SCHEDULER" and you will find "many" posts on the subject.  I read about deleting or disabling the task in the Task Scheduler back in April.

...Or you can remove it completely from your system and you will find instructions for that as well.

Best of Luck,
Dave

Just a little more teamwork, if I may, as we were talking about how to remove the notification a few days back also, which contains some relevant info also: https://community.webroot.com/t5/Techie/Get-Windows-10-Notification-Icon-Removal/m-p/203479#M8097

You really should upgrade to Windows 10, it will be faster and more secure and its free for the first year. In a few years time when support ends for 7/8 you will regret it!
