Part of our Spooky Security Showdown Series

As the eerie whispers of October breeze through, it's time to embrace the ghostly atmosphere that descends upon us. We bring you the "CyberGhost Story Challenge"! Ever encountered a digital phantom, a cursed code, or perhaps a ghostly hacker during your cyber escapades? Maybe you were too close to radioactive material and it flipped a bit - who knows? Well, this is your stage to share those spooky tales that sent a shiver down your spine!

Here's what you need to do:

Tell your tale:

  • Give us your short story based on spooky, humorous, or bizarre happenings in the cyber realm. Haunted servers, ghostly data breaches, eerie AI encounters, the darker side of the digital world is your oyster!
  • Reply to this thread with your spooky cyber tale.
  • Feel free to add a spooky title to your story.

Engage:

  • Read, react, and respond to other community members' stories. The more interaction, the merrier the spooky season becomes!

Prizes Await:

  • The most creative, engaging, and spooky story will be awarded a Amazon gift card $25 or £20. A random poster who also put in the effort will also be picked.

Deadline:

  • Submit your ghostly cyber tale by midnight on October 31st, and may the spookiest narrative prevail!

The veil between the digital and ghostly realm thins as we approach Halloween, and we can’t wait to dive into the mysterious cyber abyss through your stories. So, put on your phantom-hunting hats, let your imagination run wild, and may the ghostly muse of the cyber world inspire you!

Let the haunting begin!

Did this help you find an answer to your question?

There was a time when my work took me to a large mail order company and also to physical stores in much of Europe. I took care of the counter sales program, and based my applications on a server for the distribution of application and database updates. I was not responsible for the server (fortunately) nor for its protection. The month of August came and everyone went on holiday but upon returning, mysteriously the server was full, that is, it had no more disk space. It was a distant time, ransomeware didn't exist, but someone had managed to install a system for the distribution of peer to peer material on the unattended server. There was no story: the material could not be removed or the disk healed. The only solution was to format. Tragic right? Do you want to develop the story? Do you have suggestions? I don't want to find myself in that situation again
