On November 11, 1918 an armistice was signed between the Germans and the Allies, ending World War I.
At 5 a.m. on Nov. 11, the armistice was agreed upon. Marshal Foch sent word to Allied commanders that “Hostilities will be stopped on the entire front beginning at 11 o'clock, November 11th (French hour). The Allied troops will not go beyond the line reached at that hour on that date until further orders.”
And at the 11th hour of the 11 day of the 11th month the country stops in silence for a period of remembrance everywhere, I have known nothing else, it is something we have always and I cannot see it stopping. My grandchildren both carried wreaths at one service last Sunday.
