I spent 1989-2001 in the UK and I absolutely dressed up as a kid and remember some young adults going to parties

This has just appeared on the BBC news site which may be of some interest to you.

The scary Halloween costumes islanders wore 90 years ago

Photographs of islanders' frightening Halloween costumes from 90 years ago have been unearthed from National Trust for Scotland's archives.

The images were taken by American folklorist Margaret Faye Shaw on South Uist in the Western Isles in 1932.

Wool and sheepskin were used to make some of the costumes and masks.

We do not normally celebrate Halloween here where I am from, but I guess the closest we got to “celebrate” Halloween with another trick from our electricity provider here in SA, and had a power outage in our area for almost 4 hours. Even almost missed the online event due to this.
