This is not strictly a Webroot question, but it is security related and I am woefully lacking in my understanding of the problem and need some expert advice.  Thus, I am here because I believe that among the forum’s I belong too, this one is my best cance at a useful answer.

Simply put:  Until last Wednesday (April 21, 2021) I had adopted yippy search as my goto tool.  On Wednesday I started getting SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN errors when attempting to access the site.  Further investigation show the current cert to be:  “Country US;  State/Province Pennsylvania ;  Locality Paoli;  Organization Duck Duck Go, Inc.;  Common Name *.duckduckgo.com; ...”  If I force my way past the cert. error, it does indeed appear to go to duck.  I don’t trust this at all, it makes me nervous.

Does anybody know what’s going on here?

Is there something I can do about it?

Frustrated at the loss of my favorite search tool, --Karl.

Hey @KDBambergr ,

I’m honestly unsure how to help you with this. Does Yippy have a support e-mail you can reach out to?

khumphrey,

  Thanks for responding.

Before you go into the detail I’ve provided below, understand that while I am still attempting to ascertain what happened, for me, the question has changed from, “What happened to my favorite search and why am I getting a certificate error?” into an investigation, “Who is Yippy Inc. and what are they up too?” (Basic vetting)  I am beginning to think the company may be defunct.

Thanks again, and I am still interested in any comments, thoughts or suggestions on this topic,

--Karl.

Immediately after reading your message I attempted to contact their support, it failed:

So, this address takes you to the company site:  www.yippyinc.com/company

Once there a link in the upper right corner labeled “Try Yippy Search” is supposed to take you to the search entry at:  “https://yippy.com”  Following it now, hits the certificate error.

Currently (and I will try again later) the support link COMPANY/SUPPORT (http://support.yippyinc.com/portal) times out at the Host (Error 522 Ray ID: 64a426f04d8e26fb • 2021-05-04 19:32:26 UTC  Connection timed out)

Is there a reason you’re gung-ho on using the yippy search engine? I’ve never even heard of it until this thread.

Simply put, It was better.   Use had proven to return the results I was looking for far more often/accurately then google or duckduckgo and never advertisements.

Technically speaking:  First it is not a web crawler, rather, if I understand it correctly, it queries ‘all’ the web crawlers, aggregates the responses.

Then using IBM’s Watson technology reduces the results eliminating the junk.

And thirdly, it still understood what I meant if I added a + in front of a term thus forcing all returns to contain the word “or phrase”, Like:  Corona +beer

“Yes, that is a silly example.”

Besides, there isn’t much point in this if it’s gone.  “Sigh!  Now I just want to know why is it gone?  ...rhetorical, I don’t expect you, or anyone at this point, to answer that.”

Thank you for your time,

  --Karl.
