Like most resolutions that don’t happen, change all of my passwords into monstrous entities like MQ3Oy0/02OEG}v!\Wo?avprfM.Cfy!) while culling entries in my password manager.

New year for me means yearly IT reviews. Lets see if I can get to double digits of clients that actually take up my suggestions and invest in their own security!

It’s the year to fully move our analogue phone base to VoIP, whether they like it or not!  Unfortunately nothing inspiring but if we don’t they’ll all be cut off by 2025, so time to enter the 21st century, people!

Make a commitment to improve my understanding of cybersecurity best practices. Learning about new threats and how to mitigate them, or implementing stronger security protocols in clients networks.

This year I will continue to improve my knowledge of cyber security threats that currently face us, and I will work with my parents to help educate them and keep them safe from internet-based scams and cyber crime. I will educate them on best password policies and make sure they have Webroot antivirus and AppRiver spam filtering services to minimize their risk. They can be an easy target and it’s hard to make them understand that a 4-letter password isn’t safe enough.

Increase awareness of the Essential 8 Security guidelines including standardising and benchmarking capabilities for OS and 3rd party app patching and hardening, user permission audits, mandating two factor authentication across all platforms and the need for defined RTO and RPO for BCDR solutions.

Write a good newsletter with useful cyber security practices for our customers.

Warn them they are targeted.

Show them how they will get targeted with examples.

Try to stop them from falling for the scams.

We’ve considered electrifying phishing links (nothing like a taser though) to discourage users from following them in future, but we will probably revert to The Webroot security awareness land pages and a ticking off from the boss who gets to know who got caught.

I’ve got a Ooma because the wife really wanted a “landline” and it’s been like 7 years now and she doesn’t know it’s VOIP 🤣
