I was reading the page about Webroot gaming as I am personally a big gamer.  I just purchased a 2 year license for webroot thinking the standard webroot and webroot for pc gamers were the same thing.  Now I am seeing that it has its own category in the drop down.

So is there really a webroot for pc gamers version that is different than the standard version?  If so will my license work in the gamer version?  I just bought the license hours ago so I could try and cancel it if needed but I hope not!

Please let me know if there is any actual difference, if so can I use the gamer with this license key?

Thanks!
Hello again microtech,

The Gamer version has System Optimizer added and that's the only difference.

Please see here! http://www.webroot.com/En_US/SecureAnywhere/PC/WSA_PC_Help.htm#C9_SystemOptimizer/CH9a_RunningSystem...

Either choice of Webroot will suit you really, because both will offer the same level of protection.

You can always ask to get the Webroot Gamer version if you want to. I am sure they will assist you.

Hello again! 🙂 Thanks for your reply on this one too, you are everywhere!

Ok sure enough I don't have the optimized on mine so I do just have the standard version. I'll ask support if I can somehow switch to the gamer one.

It looks like that optimizer removes files (temp files I'm guessing, like a windows disk cleanup). Is there any more detail on what ti does? If there is a document I'd gladly read it as far as what that optimizer is doing.

Otherwise the versions are exactly the same? If that is really the only difference I may not care that much about switching, but do wonder what that optimizer does exactly.

Thanks!

Hello Again!

Please have a look here http://www.webroot.com/us/en/home/products/gamer-av

And I believe I gave you this link in last post. http://www.webroot.com/En_US/SecureAnywhere/PC/WSA_PC_Help.htm#C9_SystemOptimizer/CH9a_RunningSystemOptimizer.htm

Is this what you are asking?

Hey there, yes I guess so, I wondered what the optimizer does exactly. I see on the product details page it says:

System Optimizer

Analyze your devices and the operating systems to detect system issues, wipe away all traces of online activity, and make deleted files unrecoverable.

Kind of vague but I think I get the idea haha. The other link shows me how to run it, that is cool too but I wondered what it was actually doing.

I asked support about switching to the gamer one and they said the only way is by "contacting sales". So sounds to me like they would want to upgrade me or something haha.

I think I'll just stick with this regular version then, it's confusing because I thought I had the gamer version, I downloaded my original trial from that page you linked to with the gamer info. So I thought when I bought my license key it would be for the gamer one haha, but I guess not. Now they want to sell me the upgrade it sounds like.
Hi microtech,

Well I haven't much more information either. I did find this information. It wouldn't hurt to call and ask how much the upgrade would cost. They might give you a better deal?

Using the System Optimizer, you can protect your privacy by removing all traces of your activity, including the Internet history, address bar history, Internet temporary files (cache), and cookie files.

You can also use the System Optimizer to delete unnecessary files that Windows stores on your computer. Certain files can consume valuable space on your computer. Even with today's large hard drives, these unnecessary files can impair your computer's performance.

Note: Optimizations remove unnecessary files and traces, not malware threats. Malware (spyware and viruses) are removed during scans (see Running scans). You can think of the System Optimizer as the housekeeper for your computer, while the Scanner serves as the security guard.

If System Optimizer does not come with the version of SecureAnywhere you purchased, you can upgrade your subscription by contacting our Sales Team. For contact information, click here and choose the sales number for the location that works best for you.

Thanks again, yes that's what I found too. Sounds like the primary "benefit" is it removes temp files.

Strange to me that the "Gamer" version is literally exactly the same except it also removes temp files haha. I thought it had some feature that detected you were gaming and completely suppressed notifications, or somehow went into a super low memory state, something like that. I know it is low memory to begin with so no worries there. I just imagined that the gamer version had some feature that potentially made games run "better".

I can easily remove my own temp files, no need to pay for an upgrade, haha!
Well that's great to hear...at least you are a satisfied customer? For others who might not want to bother or don't know how to remove temp. files then this option for the Optimizer is valuable.  ;)

 ?

Edit: With Webroot unlike other AV's ..Webroot  does it's updates in the background which helps the gamers computer from using added resources or interfering with updates during a game which could cause freezing and crashes otherwise. Another benefit for gamers using the Webroot gamer version.

And we both know better performance has a lot to do with type of computer and video card..Right?
