Whenever I turn on or log on to my home desktop computer (which uses Windows Vista), the first thing I get is a Safari dialog box inquiring whether I am sure I want to install the extension "webfilter."  I rarely use Safari, and I have never heard of the extension "webfilter," so I always click "Don't Install."  I am then prompted that Safari is not my default browser and would I like to make it my default browser, and I always respond in the negative.  This happens every single time.  How do I get it to stop?
Hello Scheller,

Welcome to the Community Forum,

It's alright to install the Webfilter in Safari even though you don't use Safari much. It won't hurt anything since the Webfilter is a part of Webroot. Have a look at this PC User Guide.,

The Webroot Filtering extension is a browser extension that protects your computer while you are online. When doing searches, it will display symbols next to your search results, called annotations, which show how safe or untrusted a site is. The annotation appears to the left of each website name in the list of query results. The table below describes the meaning of each icon.

IconDescription

http://sw.nohold.net/Webroot/Images/go1.pngThese are well known sites with strong security practices, and rarely exhibit characteristics that expose you to security risks. There is a very low probability that you will be exposed to malicious links or payloads.

http://sw.nohold.net/Webroot/Images/yield1.pngThese are generally benign sites, but have exhibited some characteristics that suggest security risk. There is some probability that you will be exposed to malicious links or payloads.

http://sw.nohold.net/Webroot/Images/yielddk1.pngThese are suspicious sites. There is a higher than average probability that you will be exposed to malicious links or payloads.

http://sw.nohold.net/Webroot/Images/stop1.pngThese are high risk sites. There is a high probability that you will be exposed to malicious links or payloads.

The Webroot Filtering Extension will also stop you from going to sites that might try to infect your machine by showing a warning message.

You need to make the browser you are using to the default browser such as IE:

To make Internet Explorer your default browser

  1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Internet Explorer icon on the taskbar.
  2. Click the Tools button , and then click Internet options.
  3. Click the Programs tab, and then click Make default.
  4. Click OK, and then close Internet Explorer.
If you are using FF or Chrome then you can go into settings and make one of those your default.

Hope this helps and if not please get back to us.

Kind Regards,

Well, heck, that's embarrassing!  It's a WEBROOT product?  I guess I didn't know that.  Thanks for the help; I'll proceed to install it.
Hi Schuller,

No that's okay we get a few people who ask that question. I'm glad we could assist in answering that for you!;)
