Webroot keeps finding MacKeeper as a virus. Talked for hours with MacKeeper tech they swear the problem has been fixed, but Webroot keeps wanting to delete all Mackeeper files. Any info?
Hello @

Welcome to the Community Forum,

My best advice here is to submit a Support Ticket and they will look this over for you. This is a free service with a Webroot active subscription. These might be a false positive..not sure..

Edit @ do you have some information concerning this issue? I know the Support Team was working with "Cleanmymac" but I'm really not sure about Mackeeper?

Kind Regards,
Hello,

Mackeeper is classified as a PUA (Potentially Unwanted Application). PUAs are generally harmless to the computer, but they can alter your settings, such as your home page in your browser, without notifying you and making it very difficult to change the settings back. Because of this, Webroot SecureAnywhere is programmed to remove these applications to prevent any changes that you may not have authorized.

To prevent PUAs from getting on your computer in the future, we would recommend that you watch items you are downloading to see if they are trying to offer any additional features or applications you may not have been looking for. You can also look at this post from our Threat Team for information on how many of these PUAs can access your computer when you're trying to download programs such as Adobe Flash. Because PUAs are not malicious by nature, but can be used for malicious purposes, you may choose to allow the file(s) on your system using the following processes.

Part 1: Check to see if any related files are in quarantine

1. Click on the cog icon next to 'MAC Security'.

2. Open the 'Quarantine' tab.

3. Check the box next to the filename you want to restore, then click Restore.

Part 2: Change the Detection Configuration for the files (if necessary)

1. In the MAC Security setting screen, click the 'Block/Allow Files' tab.

2. If a file you want to use is in the list, make sure the 'Allow' radio button is selected.

3. If the file is not in the list, click the 'Add file' button.

4. Navigate to the file and click Open.

5. Make sure the item is set to "Allow" in the list.

If you have any other questions please let me know.

Regards,
