How come my Browers can connect me to the Internet sometimes; but, most of the time they freeze?

Hello,

My name is Sullliman and I am a non-techie.  You see, I had Guru Aid tried several times to fix my Browers and Internet connection problem "remotely" and they only worked once after they fixed them.  The next day, when I turn on my wireless laptop and try to get connected to the Internet, most of the time all three browers would freeze and would not allow me to connect to the Internet.

I had a Webroot guy take a look at my computer "remotely," and he said fixed the problem.  And it worked right away.  But the next day, I had the same Browers problems and can't seem to easily get connected to the Internet.

Now, I bought the "Win Cleaner" and used it.  Walla!  It works...once.  Then after I turned off and turned my computer back on, I still have the same Browers problems and most of the time I have to constantly try and try again to try to connect to the Internet.  Most of the time there is an error with the page or it simply freezes.

By the way, with or without Webroot Anywhere, I can sometime get connected to the Internet; but, most of the time I cannot.  Now I installed Webroot Anywhere again just for safety.

My bought my Dell Computer Laptop in 2011 and everything is still compatible.  Just upgraded to Microsoft Office 2013 Professional from 2010 Student Version.

Could someone help me with my Browers and Internet connection issue?  What is the problem?  I tried using Wi Fi at the local library and I still have the same problem.

Sincerely,

Sulliman

Hi Sulliman

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I have never come across this problem before as usually if there is a problem with one browser then using another one will resolve the problem.

I think that it would be useful to start by understanding which browsers you have tried and with which you are having the issue?  And also, it would be useful to know whether and what message you get/what happens when you cannot connect...do you get an HTTP 404 message, is it a blank webpage, etc.?  You say that that browsers freeze...at what stage is that...do you actually get the browsers to launch or does nothing happen when you double click the icons to launch them?

Apologies for all the questions but I think that we need a little more information to give us some context to work with.

We would seem to know that it is not to do with WSA, which is a start.  But also have you the option to connect via a cable connection (Ethernet) to what I presume is your router to see if the issue could be with your wireless connection?

Many thanks in advance.

If @ doesn't mind mep iggybacking this thread, you stated this was a Dell Laptop. In 2011 Dell had a NIC problem with the Inspiron Laptops. This was resolved with a new driver install. A link to Dell drivers is below:

drivers

Just add the service number found on the bottom of the laptop and it will go to the drivers for that model. Look for the driver for the Network Interface Card and download them. This is a install over driver, by that I mean it will delete the old driver and install the new one in it's place. Then reboot and the connection problem should be resolved.

Now this is a quick fix, and in 90% or better cases this resolves the issue and away you go. However there is always that 10% that it doesn't resolve it. That is when more indepth troubleshooting is needed. And that may require ether you to take the laptop to a tech or have a tech visit your home. The tech can do many things offline that we can't.

With all that said, I would be willing to bet that it is just a simple driver issue and the install of the new driver will fix it right up for you. I can assure you that nether WSA or Office 2013 had anything to do with the issue, except maybe for using the connection more often.

Not exactly sure what you have installed on that system but as a last resort you can always do a factory reset on the laptop. What this will do is restore the laptop to factory condition. It will look just like it did when you bought it. All programs, software and files you have saved will be gone but the laptop should be back to operating condition. There is just one issue with this plan of action, you will still need to update the drivers anyway.
Below are instructions to do a Dell Factory reset/restore:

Restore the computer's software to original condition

Let us know how it works out for ya.
