Tonight my scan ran for 1 hour and 49 minutes.  It has NEVER taken this long, EVER.  Said it was "performing central analysis" and checking for Malware; 35 processes (1,692 modules), 38,676 files; total scans 1,276; 0 active threats, 4 threats removed.  Can anyone tell me what's wrong?  Why would it take so long - I was not using the computer.  The only program up was Chrome running AOL Mail.

Thanks.

Hello ?

Sorry to hear you're having troubles with the long scan time.
I have to admit that I haven't experienced this problem myself but I did have some thoughts/questions.

Are you running a "Full" scan as opposed to a "Deep" scan?
A Deep Scan is the default and recommended setting. Scans usually complete in minutes.
A Full Scan scans all of your files and could take hours.
Please see this article for a detailed description of the differences between deep and full scans.

If you changed the settings from "deep" to "full" then that could explain the long scan times. If not, it seems as if something is slowing the scan down.

Have you recently installed or uninstalled any programs?
Have you deleted an excessive amount of files recently?
Is your recycle bin empty?
Do you notice the scan taking an excessive amount of time on one file or folder in particular?
When was the last time you deleted your temporary internet files/cleared your browser cache?
(For Chrome; Click on the three dashes in the top right corner. Click on History in the menu on the left. Click on Clear browsing data on the bottom.)

Try running the "Disk Cleanup"
 1. Open Disk Cleanup by clicking the Start button . In the search box, type Disk Cleanup, and then, in the list of results, click Disk Cleanup.
 2. In the Drives list, click the hard disk drive that you want to clean up, and then click OK.
 3. In the Disk Cleanup dialog box, on the Disk Cleanup tab, select the check boxes for the file types that you want to delete, and then click OK.
 4. In the message that appears, click Delete files.
Then finally,If you right-click the Webroot icon in your system tray and choose "scan now" how long does the scan take?

These are the only things I can think of at the moment, but if I think of anything else I will post it here.
Sorry I wasn't able to give you a definitive answer but others will see this and also chime in.

Please let me know how things go for you. If you're still having trouble I will be happy to help.
If all else fails, you can submit a trouble ticket and have support check things for you.

Have a good night,

BD

Hi BD,

Thanks for answering my question, and I'll try to answer everything you have asked.
I have not changed my scan settings to a full scan.
Have not uninstalled nor installed any programs.
My recycle bin is always empty, as are my temp/internet files as I use CCCleaner every night.
Have not deleted an excess amount of files.
I'm pretty good at defragging my files every so often.

Tonight's scan took 12 minutes - while I was using the computer.  Last night I was not using the computer and don't understand why it took so long.  I can't answer the question about it lingering any files.

If it occurs again I'll take your advice and put in a "ticket".

Thanks again!

Hi PegMc1858

May I suggest an uninstall/clean install of WSA as a first step to seeing if you can resolve the issue? To do that please follow these instructions:

 • Make sure you have a copy of your Keycode
 • KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
 • Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click HERE)
 • Uninstall WSA and Reboot
 • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode and don't import any settings as you can set it up as you like once it's done
 • Let it finish it's install scan
 • Reboot once again
If this fails to resolve the problem, you should follow BD's advice and contact Support for assistance.

If your subscription is directly through Webroot, you will need to contact Webroot Support.  You can do so by submitting a Trouble Ticket if you have not already done so, or by phone during business hours.  (The online Ticketing system is manned 24/7)

If your subscription is through Best Buy Subscription Software services, you may need to call them at 1-800-GEEK-SQUAD.

Hope that is of assistance.

Regards, Baldrick
