Downgrade in device coverage from last year?

Dear Webroot Team and Community:
I can't find this subject anywhere in the community. I am new to the community, but not to Webroot. (I have used Webroot for several years now).  I currently use Webroot Internet Security Complete, and it covers up to 5 pcs + 3 mobile. I have a mixture of 5 pcs (laptops and desktop) and 2 Kindles covered.  Also, 2 of the PC's are dual boot, so I don't actually own 5 separate machines, but since they are dual boot, each OS must be counted to be legal with Webroot.
Imagine my surprise to discover that when I renew my coverage in a couple weeks, I will no longer be able to cover all these devices without DOUBLING my cost. I realize that nothing stays the same, but the 'same' product I had last year will now only cover 5 devices instead of up to 8 devices. That is a significant 'downgrade' in coverage for the same amount of money.

I am retired now and on a fixed income and will now have to choose which of my devices will 'lose' their Webroot coverage.  Any suggestions? I am leaning toward removing Webroot from the Kindles first. The 5 pc's I now have covered range from Vista to Windows 7.  All seven devices are used on the internet from daily to once a week.  (to keep them up to date software wise).
Also, should anyone think I am wealthy and just complaining, My computers range in age from 5 years to 1 1/2 yrs old, and were upgraded as needed before I retired to try and carry me for the first few years of retirement, gradually removing the oldest ones from service as their OS's are 'retired' by Microsoft.

Hi svtcobra97

Welcome to the Community Forums.

May I ask where you purchased WSA from originally?  Was it from the likes of Best Buy or was it from Webroot or another reseller?

The reason I ask is that I also use Complete, and have from its introduction, and as far as I know it has always provide cover for 5 seats/PC...not 8, and for quite a while...based on the renewals that I have undertaken over the years.  I would therefore be interested to know how you have achieved this. ;)

In terms of what to unprotect; I would agree that letting go the Kindles given that they are less likely to suffer from malware and contain less important files/data...but make sure that you have a back up of the contents and that you keep that regularlly backed up on a protected PC.

Regards

@svtcobra97 As far as I understood, you use 3 pcs (2 of which has dual boot) and 2 kindles. That makes a total of 5 devices.   Like Baldrick has said, WSA Complete has always covered 5 devices. It doesn't count by the number of Operating Systems but by devices. I believe you have been using WSA on the right number of devices and are getting the right number in renewal.   Please correct me if I have gotten the numbers wrong.

Not sure @ but I think that has changed as it's 1 seat per OS now as I was told in my VM's not to make Clones as that will use up another seat but if I did a snapshot VM it would not so we will have to wait for Webroot Staff to confirm this. @ @ @

Thanks,

Daniel 😉

Baldrick,
I purchased my Webroot online directly from the Webroot online store. For the last few years, it has always been cheaper to  purchase a new license from Webroot rather than re-newing the existing license. I merely went to their products page for home users and looked at the different options and selected the one that covered 5 pcs. It was only after I got it that I realized it also covered 3 mobile devices in addtion to the 5 pcs.
Also, I should break down how my PCs are set-up. The first is my desktop gaming setup, dual booting with Win-XP/Win7. I only cover the Win7 side with webroot. That is PC#1.
Next is my Macbook Pro running bootcamp with Mac OSX/Win7. Again only the Win7 side is covered by Webroot. That is PC#2.
Next is my wife's HP laptop running Win7. That is covered by Webroot, so that is PC#3.
Next is my wife's old HP laptop running Vista 64 and is tied to her embroidery sewing machine. That is PC#4.
Next is my wife's HP netbook running Win7. We travel with that one. That is PC#5.
Next is my wife's KIndle HD. That is mobile device #1.
Last is my Kindle HD. That is mobile device #2.
I was going to set up Webroot on her iPhone 5S. That would have been mobile device #3.

I have had this coverage, 5 PC's plus 3 mobiles for the last 2 years. Hence my surprise that it was no longer available. I can take a screenshot of my account page to prove it if that is necessary.
Thank you for your response.

Also, to all who have anserwed, I appreciate the responses.

Hi svtcobra97

Thanks for the reply.  I have to admit that I was not considering mobile devices in the mix when responding to your question...and as I run Windows Phone, for which there is no version of WSA, the problem has not arisen for me.

I have say that despite what you say I have always understood that it was 5 devices that were covered rather than just 5 PCs or Macs + additional mobile devices.

I think that it would be worth checking out the chronology of this change via the contacts of our most excellent Community Manager @ ...would you be able to get to the bottom of this, Nic, i.e., when the 'change' occured?

Cheers

Hi svtcobra97,

Okay so you have WSA set up in all the five pcs plus the two kindles. It's already 7 devices and you were going to set up on a further 8th device.

I must say I'm puzzled. And WSA is working fine on all the devices? @ has to help here.

One of the things that has changed this year is adding checking on license compliance.  Before that you might have been able to run 8 devices just because we weren't checking.  Probably the best thing to do is contact support and they'll be able to help you get the coverage you need.

To all:
I assure you I am within my license provisions with the 8 devices. I can even post you a screen shot of my web console page if you like. There is no issue of non-compliance on my part!
I have merely been using the product as Webroot sold it to me.
I originally bought the 5 PC license a couple years ago, and was pleasantly surprised when Webroot informed me via my web console that I could cover an additional 3 mobile devices along with the 5 pcs.

Let me check with some folks here and see what is going on with the licenses.  I'll post back when I get more info.

Nic, I appreciate that, but I accept the fact that Webroot has decided to offer less devices covered going forward.

But I notice that this year, they are putting the description of the product as covering 5 'devices', rather than 5 PC's/Macs.

But I also maintain I was merely doing what Webroot clearly told me I could do in the way of device coverage. I do not believe in cheating anyone out of their money.

I am going to install the Webroot app on the Kindles from the Kindle store and keep all 5 of my PCs covered. I found Webroot Complete on sale at Best Buy on a 'back to college' special and have purchased my new copy there right off the shelf.  So I am still staying with Webroot; especially since Best Buy was nice enough to put it on sale now, just before my current license is set to expire.

You may be right that there is a change in coverage - I just want to make sure I have the right info so that I can inform people.

Hi svtcobra97

I think that it would be useful if you could post the screen shot, to enlighten us...as I never ever got the offer from Webroot...in any form and so I would like to see how that displays in the Console.

Do remember to edit the shot to not display any sensitive or private info like the full keycode, etc. ;)

Regards
