What are Webroot's website blocking criteria?

I just am getting a lot of typically nonthreatening websites coming up with Webroot blocking them. Can't I be expected to show a little "savvy" with regard to inputting any of my private information or whatever it purports to be the website's violation? I easily click Unblock and Continue. But still I wonder at the criteria being used. Do sites get ranked somewhere? Thanks.

Hi Closurizer

If I may more specifically respond to you question.

Yes, part of the Webroot Intelligence Network (WIN) that powers WSA is BrightCloud which deal with web site reputation amongst other related things....you can read more about them here if interested.

The key thing is that based on a number of measures they rank or assign a reputation to websites, for the use of WSA amonsgt others.  And one of the inputs to that process is you and I, via the options available on the Web Threat blocking web page that you have referred to.

Now a part from using the 'Unblock and proceed' option which (i) whitelists the url on your system & (ii) updates the Threat Researchers to the override, there is a "Change Classification" button on the URL block pages.

Clicking this button will direct you to BrightCloud to submit a change request directly from the block page. This is the preferred alternative to submitting, either a Support Ticket or manually going to the BrightCloud Change Request URL, when the Web Filtering Shield blocks what you believe to be a legitimate URLs.

If however the BrightCloud lookup shows a URL as clean but you are still seeing a block you should Open a Support Ticket so that this can be checked out by the Support Team.

Hope that further clarifies/answers your question?

Regards, Baldrick

I submitted a couple of sites at the first link recommended. But now when I attempt a third submission I'm told to work on "the Integration field," whatever that may mean. I'm baffled. I mean, I filled in the URL and my email address, even the Notes field. Does it mean to select one of the check boxes headed WRI (whatever that may mean)? If so, how do I choose among the half dozen or so? Thanks in advance.

Also, is there a way to go back and get the blocking to occur again on a site I've whitelisted for my system? Thanks.

I'm not getting the choices you mentioned. Here is a copy and paste of the Blocking Message:

(At that particular site, note that there are no input fields tempting one to spill any private data, anyway.)
It just occurred to me perhaps a reason I'm getting so much blocking is I'm "clicking through" from Facebook.

I solved my problem which consisted of nearly every website I visited being blocked by disabling or uninstalling my Firefox browser's add-on Webroot Filtering Extension. I was being forced to have to click each time to unblock sites. Now that I'm not using the add-on, the regular Webroot program on my taskbar is just fine.

In an email reply to my plea for help from Webroot, I was told, "We are glad you figured out how Webroot Filtering Extension can work for you in the best way." I thought this was funny. Get something to work for you in the best way by getting rid of it--rich.

Is your browser Firefox and do you open Google links by right-clicking and then selecting "Open in a new tab"? If so, then this is a Webroot bug which causes the Web Filter to pull the website classification from a database other than the BrightCloud database. This will explain why you are getting so many webpage blocks. There is a new beta version of the Web filter that is being tested and is supposed to resolve the problem (I do not currently have access to this beta version so I cannot comment further on how well it works).

Temporary workaround: left-click Google links and, if you wish, set your Google preferences so that when you left-click on a Google link it opens that link in a new tab. If you do this, you will be able to continue to use the Web Filter without getting all the FPs.
