Hello gilmore00a,

Welcome to the Webroot Community,

This program is an adware variant and it has probably invaded your Chrome, Firefox or other default browser with the sole aim of displaying tons of popping messages, blinking boxes, notifications, and ads. It may have also applied some strange changes to your browser settings – your homepage may have been changed to a promotional.website and every time you try to search something on the web, your searches may get redirected to other web locations full with aggressive advertisements.

Please try adding a good free Ad Blocker like the ones suggested below:

For Internet Explorer Ad Block Plus: https://adblockplus.org/

For Firefox uBlock Origin: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/?src=ss or Privacy Badger: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/privacy-badger-firefox/

Google Chrome uBlock Origin: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?hl=en or Privacy Badger: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/privacy-badger/pkehgijcmpdhfbdbbnkijodmdjhbjlgp

If this fails then submit a Support Ticket or Contact Webroot Support to sort this problem. This service is FREE with a paid subscription.

Hope this helps?

Overview

A Container Tag is a single piece of JavaScript (JS) code that is implemented on a merchant's web site. Container tags make it easier for merchants to add, change, or remove marketing tags, because they provide a delivery mechanism for the tags they contain. The changes are done in one single place within the Container Tag interface, instead of writing code for tags page by page on the web site.

So what are TAGs?

  • Tags are critical to online marketing as they are essentially the means by which data is collected on a website.
  • A tag may be a simple 1x1 transparent pixel or image tag loaded onto the web page.
  • A tag could also take the form of JavaScript code that allows for more advanced data collection as in the case of Container Tags.
  • Tags are incorporated into the HTML/JavaScript code delivered by a web browser or app when a web page loads.
  • Tags have different functions, for example:[list]
  • Instruct web browsers to collect data
  • Set cookies on the visitor's web page
  • Integrate third-party content into a website (e.g. social media widgets, video players, ads, etc.)
[/list]

This is definitely related to advertisements on websites and has not just been one specific website. This seems to indicate an issue with an advertising agency or your browser or combo of the two.

Some of the domains related to the .js file are:

cdn.adnxs.comlax1-ib.adnxs.comm.adnxs.comsecure.adnxs.compixel.advertising.com Definitely nothing to worry about, they are all legit! You can try clearing browser cache and all that jazz to stop it.
