In Cyber Security there is (or rather should be) a pillar called BCP and DRP (BCDR).

Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery Planning for me is as equal to all the layers of defence you have in place. You can have all the โ€œbells and whistlesโ€ but do not have a decent and well tested DRP and BCP in place, you are simply a โ€œsitting duckโ€ as we all know, you are only as strong as your weakest link. The recently released 2023 Threat Report speak volumes for itself.

  • 55.6% of consumer PCs were infected more than once, and 19.9% infected more than 5 times.

With the ever evolving IoT and Technology growing the way it is, it is becoming even more complex to stay ahead of the pack.

As such, it is always important to do a Business Impact Analysis as part of an organizations cyber security. One of the biggest challenges for companies when they execute BCP is to ensure that Cyber Security is adequately evaluated and that all their vital systems and data are secured in all areas possible.

With lower staffing numbers in essential cyber security and IT Teams, let alone the the required skills in some of the complex parts of these profession, it only exacerbate the issue even more. Thus it is a vital approach to prepare for these risks and to make sure they are addressed in your BCDR. Whether it me an in-house team, or a managed team from your MSP.

Myself, being a Backup and Disaster Recovery person, this is my absolute passion, as we all know what is he most important asset of any company. It is NEVER an โ€œIFโ€ it will happen, it is always a โ€œWHENโ€ it happen.

So in conclusion, my honest opinion on this topic, and my advise to anyone out there, make sure that your Cyber Security Team include the BCDR in the mix, and you will maintain a total vision and keep your eye on everything at all times, knowing you are protected in every area possible.

I don't have much earth-shattering advice, but one thing I tell people, is find something that you love to do and make that your career. follow your dreams. Get a college degree if you need it for your career path, but the degree is not as important as the passion that you have for that career.

@Martin.1 Great input Martin and you even referenced our Threat Report!

@Rodney18 This is always good advice. I didnโ€™t get a degree until after I already had my career and children.

YOU ALL WIN GIFT CARDS.

Gonna let this one simmer a little longer this week as obviously this isnโ€™t a popular one to engage on. ๐Ÿ˜…

@TylerM  Thank you. I have seen this โ€œgapโ€ so many times over and over again, NO BCP, NO DRP, yet all the fancy firewalls, and all the other nice things added, and all you need is one clown to go click on the wrong thing, and all of that means nothing. As @Rodney18  said, the passion you need to have, this is my passion.
