Sweet!  That's a very useful prize.  Thanks :).

My favorite drink for cold weather, and Christmas, is an Old Fashioned.

This is how my Dad made them, hence the way I make them.

Old Fashioned

Ingredients

  1. 1 teaspoon sugar
  2. 3 dashes bitters (I like orange bitters)
  3. 1 teaspoon water
  4. 2 ounces bourbon (I use single malt Scotch)
  5. 1 orange twist

Directions

  1. Add the sugar and bitters into a mixing glass, then add the water, and stir until the sugar is nearly dissolved.
  2. Fill the mixing glass with ice, add the whiskey, and stir until chilled.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over one large ice cube.
  4. Pinch an orange twist over the glass, then drop into the glass to garnish.

Its an easy drink to make and goes down easy too.

Every Christmas I love buying “mexican coke” for myself and the kids. We don’t normally get sugar drinks, but holidays are a special time.

I love these niche of coca cola as they use REAL sugar cane instead of high fructose corn syrup sugar and you can definitely tell the difference. Also these bottles just hit different I’m not sure what it is, but I blame the polar bear adverts when I was growing up.

Sauteed Sprouts all day long!

500g Brussels sprouts, halved
1 tbsp. olive oil

Salt

Freshly ground black pepper

Juice of 1/2 lemon 1

garlic clove, crushed or garlic puree if you’re lazy like me

Small pinch of chili flakes

1. Prep the sprouts so that they are clean and tidy, with the stem and scraggly bits taken off.

2. Heat oil in a large pan over medium/high. When hot enough, add the sprouts and ensure all cut sides of sprouts are cut side down. Cook as is for 5 mins, then add chili flakes. Cook for 2 more minutes, until cut sides are getting caramelised.

3. Cook and stir fry the sprout until they start to get tender, for around another 8 minutes. This isn’t a hard and fast rule; check when they look right. Then add the salt and pepper, lemon juice, and chuck in your garlic. Stir in and cook for a couple more minutes and job done!

I am a veggie, but if you eat meat, throw in some bacon with it!

Christmas Dish for us it’s the traditional English Roast :

Roast Turkey with Cranberry sauce. Brussels sprouts. Roast carrots and parsnips.. Stuffing. Gravy. Roast potatoes.

Although we have to have Garlic Bread also for the kids!

Gluehwein. Hot-mulled wine.

Became a tradition during my time living in Austria. Good way to keep warm when wandering around Christmas Markets.

Congratulations everyone.

One of my favourites I mentioned the other day - Yorkshire rarebit

So I will give you my favourite Christmas drink and it is not one for the kids.

Ginger whiskey, a homemade version and a lot more kick to it than retail versions.

It is REALLY easy to make and certainly is warming, and more less ginger can be used depending on your personal preference.

Ingredients

1ltr of cheap whiskey

1 x 350 gram jar of stem ginger in syrup.

Method

Remove the ginger from syrup leaving the syrup in the jar.

Cut the ginger into smaller pieces.

Put them into a large bottle and the add the syrup. Wash the jar out with some of the whiskey to remove the rest of the syrup then add the rest of the whiskey to the bottle.
Shake for a couple of days.

Strain it off and enjoy it but keep the ginger pieces to eat or maybe even coat with chocolate.

The warning I will give is that it is very moreish.

That looks like some hot chocolate with baileys bro. I absolutely want to try whatever hot-mulled wine is

LOL. Whoever posted this on the Internet said it was Gluhwein. It has a reddish hue and pink foam. If it’s on the Internet, it has to be true.

They do have something called Baileys Punsch. I ordered it once on a friends recommendation and, they put a shot of Baileys in some hot wine. That tasted about as good as it sounds. I couldn’t finish it.

The next time I saw my friend, I was like, “How can you like that?” At which point I found out that they made the drink wrong. It should have been basically Egg Nog with a shot of Baileys. Oh well.

I don’t have a fancy recipe like everyone else does. I usually just buy mulling spices at the grocery store or at a Christmas craft fair.

  1. Pour a bottle of wine or two into a pot
  2. Drop in the mulling spices.
  3. Let it simmer for a few hours
  4. Add a little sugar to taste
  5. Enjoy

Here’s a recipe Google helped me find. Every recipe is basically the same.

My Mom makes these cookie buns that taste so good, unfortunately none of us children have been able to duplicate the recipe yet.

I really need to find time to check here every day. Once again, I am late to the giveaway party.  Bit that is really OK.  I have won many excellent presents from Webroot, so congrats to all the winners of these last 10 days. Happy Holidays all:

Took me way to long to realize you just being funny and “shake” isn’t some cooking term and it doesn’t take a couple days
