The world is a crazy place Tyler and the IoT is making people lazier. I understand automatic blinds etc can give the impression that somebody is at home but bthere is so much out there we do not need.

Just look at this one

Flip-flops

We couldn’t forget to mention an IoT device that is connected in perhaps the least useful way possible. This pair of flip-flops with a chip and accompanying app doesn’t provide anything conceivably useful like fitness tracking data, but instead sends wearers information about discounts. Sign me up!

I do not mind getting up to turn a light on or turn the kettle on etc. I do not even have a smart phone and just use a Samsung 2100 which some use as a burner, had it 10 years and still love it.

In the same boat I will never bring in alexa or nest or any of that smart home stuff. They are absolutely recording you even when not talking to them. I turn off all “okay google” activations on my phone too and have been since they came out and its getting more difficult and confusing to do (on purpose I’m sure)

Eggs are good for like a month and are like $3-4?

When my cousin from Oz visited us in England for the first time and asked the lady behind the counter at a services petrol station if they sold thongs he got the weirdest look. I can still picture her face to this day 🤣

I try to keep my home as “low tech” as possible, so other than laptops, smartphones, and smart tv’s, I hardly have any other tech in my home tbh, as it just tend to make you super lazy.

I have a “smart fridge” that allows me to connect to it wirelessly so I can control the internal temperature from anywhere….WHY??? I don’t think there has ever been a time when I was away from the house, or even in the hours for that matter, and had any thought about the internal temperature of my refrigerator unless there was a power outage and I was concerned about food going bad, and if that happened obviously the WiFi feature would be useless.  Seems to me like just another expensive option that is completely useless.

I love things like this, I dont have any but they do make me laugh. When I think about all the times i change the fridge temperature (never) it reminds me just how stupid these things are haha. I did read an article somewhere though of someone running the game DOOM on their fridge display which i thought was hilarious!

This is it. The realization that there is a level a convenience that is too much as it is not needed, a barrier, if you will. And we have tech creators now trying to smash through that barrier and provide us useless garbage, typically with cheap unvetted hardware that could easily be vulnerable and compromise your home. Like who is going to do a firmware update on their fridge or flipflops...or underarm deodorant?
