Question

Webroot Blocking all Nividia Product Updates

It appears that Webroot is blocking all of my NVIDIA product updates with error code:  0x80070005.  I have added every “.exe” file in all of my NVIDIA Corporation folders to the Webroot “Allow” category to no avail.

Where can I see what exact files Webroot is blocking so that I can fix the issue.

If this will be an issue of blocking without an opportunity to override the block in the future, using Webroot will waste my time and lose any functionality for me.

There’s a lot of people reporting on that link that uninstalling Webroot solved the problem to the update. Still probably be best to contact Webroot Support so they can figure this mess out.

Yes it is Webroot as I updated my newer Alienware 17R5 and NVIDIA wouldn’t install so I tried turning WSA off that didn’t work so I uninstalled WSA and it installed fine then reinstalled WSA very weird. It could be the WRYES module?

Just to let everyone know Webroot is working on a fix hopefully sometime this week! But to get any new NVIDIA drivers installed you will need to uninstall Webroot and then update NVIDIA drivers then reinstall Webroot until the fix is released.

Sorry!

Thank you @TripleHelix , I was able to shut down Webroot and install the Nvidia App Driver but to find out  later that Webroot was getting locked up when doing a Webroot scan after installing the Driver to get WR.Log to see if there were any errors.

So I  eventually decided to uninstall Webroot and reinstall...everything is good now.

Yes I tried that and I didn’t know the issue was Webroot at the time so I install the new NVIDIA Driver in Safe mode then users starting posting the same issues but no errors anywhere so it was WSA and I had to uninstall it the get the new NVIDIA drivers to update then I reinstalled Webroot and like Brad said there will be a fix coming this week.

I AM HAVING THE SAME ERROR CODE, THE SAME FAILURE TO INSTALL window and so on as everyone here. Sooo happy to see i am not alone.
BUT….. a Geforce solution was to completely uninstall The geforce nvidia app and no I have NO graphics….all text menus are gibberish.  COMPLETELY DEAD IN THE WATER.

I CAN access the task manager and probably the windows+r to run something….but When i tried to use a recovery point, it said the anti virus prevented the action…..

i need to disable webroot from the command prompt….

I don’t know how much you can do on that system but if you can try this in the RUN Command to uninstall Webroot following the steps Webroot asks for then if you can install your NVIDIA Drivers then reinstall Webroot. Make sure you save your Webroot Keycode!

"C:\Program Files\Webroot\WRSA.exe" -uninstall

This is what I am looking for! I will be doing this blind…..where it says ok, cancel and browse i have computer gibberish. After I hit OK, IT WILL probably want me to confirm.  Will it be the first gibberish choice (ok) or the second (cancel)?

If your in Safe Mode then you can install NVIDIA Drivers because Webroot doesn’t run in Safe Mode but it will run in Safe Mode with Networking. Once you get NVIDIA Drivers installed boot back to normal mode then uninstall Webroot reboot and run the NVIDIA Drivers installer and do a Clean install during the setup then after reinstall Webroot and a Fix will be out this week to fix the issue within Webroot and I will let you know when it’s out.

Webroot has very good self protection so that Malware can’t disable it so that’s why you can’t kill it’s processes in Task Manager.

Very sorry your seeing this issue as when I had my issue I uninstalled NVIDIA Drivers but my screen was still normal and again at the time I didn’t know Webroot was the issue but the Product Manager knows and he’s getting it fixed and tested before releasing.

The only thing is i cannot access the desktop and the icon for file location….i know where the new downloaded nvidia app is and the drivers are but cannot even get to that….after signing in i see a black screen with a cursor-that’s it.

i am thinking, as the options get smaller, i will need to reinstall windows while preserving personal files option. Dunno wht else i can do.

@BradW

You can try contacting Webroot Support maybe they can do something as they have other tools. To bad you couldn’t do a System Restore and Maybe get some good Back Up Software and do daily or weekly back ups?

https://www.webroot.com/us/en/support/home-contact

https://www.webrootanywhere.com/servicetalk.asp?

Again so sorry and keep us updated with your progress. 😣

I already send in a ticket to support they suggested stuff i cannot do. They also said they will have a solution in april. I tried to do a system restore and picked a point to restore from, but when it was done, it said it couldnt complete because of webroot and it left me with no desktop where i am now.
