I have a MacBook Pro and i bought the Webroot Antivirus for it. My Mac has a program called MacKeeper and I'm just wondering if it's necessary to use that program if I have Webroot?

Hi Monie41510
Welcome to the Community Forums.
I am no Mac expert but as far as I can see MacKeeper is "...a cleaning, optimisation and security solution with 17 advanced Mac utility tools". In otherwords, it is a jack of all trades and most likely a master of none where as WSA is a master at protection from and detection of malware.
WSA does not have all the feature of MacKeeper but I would suspect that it will protect your system far far better than Mac Keeper's security features. I suspect that WSA & MacKeeper will play well together so there is probably no problem with keeping both on your system and using WSA for security and MacKeeper for the cleaning & optimisation tools.
Perhaps ?, our Mac expert, has more learned view on this topic?

Please have a look at this thread https://community.webroot.com/t5/Techie/I-have-Mackeeper-that-keeps-popping-up-plus-other-popups-how-can/m-p/172519/highlight/true#M6597
I apologize I am not at a computer right now..But I believe this Mac Keeper may have Potentially Unwanted Applications.
?? Are you around?
Thankyou@Baldrick for pinging me. I haven't been a fan of MacKeeper on my Mac.

Hi Monie41510
After doing a little more research on this it appears that the consensus view is to avoid MacKeeper, as per Sherry's recommendation.
Apparently it uses scare ads that appear as "pop-under" ads on web sites, telling people to clean their Macs. Also, more alarmingly it can apparently destabilize an otherwise stable Mac, and embeds itself so thoroughly into the operating system that removing it is difficult. In otherwords, it is indeed what we call a PUA or Potentially Unwanted Application.
Given this I would recommend that you Open a Support Ticket and ask the Support Team advice/assistance on how to remove this varmint from you Mac, as from what I read it leaves traces behind in the Mac system library folder that should be removed.

MacKeeper is considered a PUA (potentially unwanted application). While this product does use a legit AV engine (Avast) it also runs other processes that would be considered unwanted. There has also been lawsuits against this company for falsly claiming to boost mac speeds and protect from unknown threats. Here is a link that discusses one of the lawsuits. Mackeeper settlement Please feel free to reach out to me with any other Mac threat questions.
