I understand webroot will roll back encrypted files using an unencrypted version stored through journaling.

What happens if webroot runs out of space while journalling the encryption of a large media disk of many terabytes?

Thanks

Hello proline99,

May I also suggest you listen to this by Bright Talk about Ransomeware? https://www.brighttalk.com/webcast/8241/127363

I really enjoyed this Webinar and thought you would too.

Hello and Welcome to the Webroot Community!

Sherry posted a good link but in a nut shell you run out of storage your SOL. Also even the Threat Researchers suggest to Back Up often as they keep making nastier Ransomware everyday and it may in some cases not rollback but who knows for sure? They keep updating the Client and the Cloud but no one will ever say any AV is 100% so what I do is have a layered approach and Back Up, Back Up.

Thanks,

Daniel ;)

Thanks for the replies .

Could you explain what you mean by 'you run out of storage your SOL'.

Thanks
I will say it this way! You run out of storage it will not rollback plain and simple. Also we have never seen someone complain or had this issue and the files are compressed to help not to fill the drive so fast and most times the WIN Cloud would make a determination way before that. http://www.brightcloud.com/platform/webroot-intelligence-network.php

Thanks,

Daniel

Thanks Daniel.

Very impressed with the speed and quality of the response to my query by all those who replied - thanks.
Your very Welcome and most of us are Volunteer's so that should say how much we believe in WSA and the Direction it's continuing to go!

Cheers,

Daniel 😉
Daniel is correct - if you run out of room then you are in trouble.

One positive is that ransomware typically encrypts files gradually now, to avoid suspicion.  So you'll usually catch it before it's had a chance to encrypt your entire environment.
