Speeding up Second Life/OpenSim

Forum|alt.badge.img+3

(This was asked several years ago, but I´m hoping there may be some new information.)  I´ve used Second Life for many years, and lately it has really slowed down.  I´ve run thru all the suggestions available at https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/slow_rez but what really jumps out is the possible issues with Webroot.  https://wiki.firestormviewer.org/webroot

I really do NOT want to turn off ID Protection.  There are references in the community conversation to whitelisting files or folders, either on the PC or at your server end, but as I said, this stuff is really old.

Can we resurrect this topic with any new information?  Thanks!

@sierradave ,

Welcome to the community!

I’m sorry you’ve had some difficulties with your speeds in second life due to Webroot. It’s true that Webroot can occasionally have a negative impact on games but most problems can be resolved with some tweaks that our support team has access to. Have you tried contacting them yet? They can be reached via email or phone here: https://www.webroot.com/us/en/support/home-contact

Hope that helps! Please keep us updated.

Thanks for responding.  One thing that came up on the page I linked was the suggestion to turn off ID Protection.  Much as I would rather not do that, I did and it may have helped.  It’s only been a day and I will do some more on/off comparison tests to see if that’s the issue.

Several community posters remarked that a very good feature would be to enable whitelisting folders.  I’ve no idea if that would help, but that program writes/reads CONSTANTLY to cache folders; letting those file pass thru unfiltered really could speed things up.

@sierradave ,

Keep us updated on whether or not that workaround resolves your issue. I do know that our Support team has some less obtrusive tweaks that they can make with folders/whitelisting which often solves game lag issues. I think it’s worth reaching out to them just to see if you can solve your issue without turning off ID protection.
