The DNS Protection agent runs as a service on each installed system and is designed to intercept, manage, and filter DNS requests. In the last release, DNS Leak Prevention functionality was added to the agent, providing a DNS firewall to block alternate sources of DNS resolution. The patented feature was very well received, helping establish DNS Protection as an innovator in the space, as well as differentiating the solution from the competition.

To expand on the success of DNS Leak Prevention, a second patent was filed and then implemented, namely Dynamic DNS Server Detection. This unique feature is designed to leverage the DNS Protection agent to identify active connections and then to interrogate them as to whether they are DNS resolvers. Based on this determination, access is subsequently regulated. This is a significant step forwards in controlling DNS resolution as some DNS servers, such as DNS over HTTPS (DoH) are notoriously difficult to detect. Not only does this improve the functionality of DNS Leak Prevention, it also augments our own intelligence and furthers the symbiotic relationship with BrightCloud.

New Features & Enhancements

  • Dynamic detection of DNS resolvers
  • VPN support and functionality improvements
  • Stability improvements when moving between wireless networks while in sleep mode
  • Optimization of local DNS resolvers

This feature release contains a number of new Unity API functionalities. Amongst these are new endpoint methods for OpenText Secure Cloud; Product Card information and Charges (Billable Usage).

There are also security and usability enhancements by employing Authorization Code Flow for authenticating via IDPs and Token Exchange for seamless access within the SMB ecosystem.
