Public or Private Network

Hello.

I have WiFi on my home PC. 

On the Network Properties Option (Public or Private) I’m pretty sure selecting Private would be best for me, but I’m not sure.

I don’t want any neighbors being able to “discover” my PC, and have no desire for file sharing. I’m thinking the “Private” selection would make sense and be the choice.

Do I have that right?

Why would anyone operating on a home PC select a Public Network option.
