Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona is underway and Taiwan's ASUS has already made a splash revealing two new mobile products, the Fonepad and the PadFone Infinity. Despite the similarities in the names (albeit flipped), these two products couldn't be more different. The $249 Fonepad is essentially a tablet you can make calls with and talk on. It will run Android and be powered by an Intel Atom Z2420 processor with 1GB RAM and a 3G wireless radio to make those phone calls possible. The PadFone Infinity, on the other hand, is a high-end smartphone/tablet hybrid. The aforementioned link breaks the specs and features down in more detail, but here are the basics: The LTE smartphone has a 5-inch display with a 1920X1080 resolution and 441 PPI. It's powered by a 1.7 GZ Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, and sports a 13MP rear and 2MP cameras. The main differentiating factor from other high-end smartphones of today? The PadFone can plug into a 10-inch tablet dock, which also acts as a battery pack. So what's the caveat (if any)? Perhaps the price. The PadFone will go for 999 Euros, or $1325, if it does make it to the US.
What do you think about the ASUS offerings at MWC? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
