Hi , we have recently been pen tested and the testers were able to upload a eicar.txt test virus file into one of our applications without Webroot detecting it. According to Webroot support, they do not support eicar test files. Just wondering if Webroot has its own malware test file which is of txt, .doc or pdf format.

Webroot doesn’t detect malware in txt, doc or pdf files at all. It’ll only take action if there’s a script executed from it or if a PE file gets written to disk or acted upon.

The text file itself is harmless until it’s converted into a script and allowed to run, which then might be detected by security software.
