Hello ?,

Welcome to the Webroot Community,

Windows 10 will not allow you to have both Windows Defender and Webroot enabled at the same time. This is a function of Windows, not Webroot. The same will be true of any AV you install on Windows 10.

If you had Windows Defender active at the time you installed Webroot, Webroot will have become the active AV software, and Windows will have automatically disabled Windows Defender. In the event that Webroot is disabled or uninstalled, Windows will automatically re-enable Windows Defender and keep it turned on until you enable or re-install Webroot.

But if you want to look here at this KB Article it will tell you how to run Windows Defender.

IMO you only need Webroot for full priotection which far surpassess WD.

Hope this helps,

Kind Regards,

Hi odomski,

Sherry is absolutely right and I agree with what she has explained, especially not needing Defender if you have Webroot.

If you want just one good reason, run task manager and look at the CPU resources that the Defender anti-malware engine uses.  That alone was enough to make me disable Defender.

The best to you,
Dave

to be honest your better off with webroot enabled and having windows denfender as webroot is more powerful than windows denfender.

I will remain unbiased here, as i do personally believe that microsoft did indeed reinforce windows defedner making it better then it ever was. With new features like AMSI "Antimalware Scan Interface", that will be available for all internet security companies to take advantage of "although none but Defender are doing so yet", and the cloud feature incorporated in Defender now, its detection rates are much better, its blocking ability of Scripts is becoming outstanding..  It does average around 50 to 60 MB of ram usage idle..

That said, Webroot offers more in a complete package, with its webfilter, higher detection rates, fast scan times, phishing protection, identity protection, protection against MITM "Man in the middle attacks", against MITB "Man in the Browser attacks" and rollback feature, not to mention very low ram usage, just to name some of the features..

I would be willing to say after listing this and reading, once compared, chosing would seem to take no effort ;)

I've seen a lot of issues with this since windows 10 came out and it took us awhile to figure out it was windows defender.
