I purcased webroot today but my cd will not come for a while. I tried to download the free trial.

Welcome to the community if you know your keycode you can try downloading the software from here and enter your keycode this will install the latest version of webroot for you onto your pc while you are waiting for the cd to come. The cd wont take long to come to you.

There is no need to wait for the CD or use the trial...you can download the latest installer from here (Webroot version) or here (Best Buy version)...and I am assuming that you are using the PC version but if not then just let me know and I can provide the link for the Mac versions.
 
Now, given what you say I suspect that the best course of action for you will be to do an uninstall of your current version & then clean install the version you have downloaded using the link above./  To do that please follow these instructions carefully:
 

• Make sure you have a copy of your Keycode
• KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
• Uninstall your previous version and Reboot
• Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode and don't import any settings as you can set it up as you like once it's done
• Let it finish it's install scan
• Reboot once again

May I also ask as to whether you have any time left on the keycode for your current version? If so then please be advised that if you enter & activate your new keycode you will effectively lose the remaining days on your existing license. If it is not a lot of days you may decide it is not worth it but if it is then you could contact support (Open a Support Ticket) and ask them to merge the two keycodes together to give you the sum of the days of the two licenses.
