why won't my computer won't let me do windows update..

Would you be able to advise as to why you believe that it is WSA that is preventing you from running Windows Update? Are you getting a message to that effect? If so then please post the details for us to check out.
 
You can also double check as to whether it is WSA by temporarily shutting down proection and then running WIndows Update. To do that right click on the notification tray icon for WSA and select Shut down protection, enter the CAPTCHA characters requested and then click OK. Then try Windows Update and once you have the result post back here, remembering to re-enable WSA.
 
What you can also try is to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter (you can find the one for Windows 10 here, and there are others for other verisons on the same site) and that will diagnose Windows Update, fix issues if found and let you know what it has found/fixed.
