Hello,
I've just downloaded and installed webroot secureanywhere. It scanned and found no malware or hostile programs. My HP i7, running Windows 7 (I erased and abandoned Win 10 over 6 months ago) is infected with an audio/visual malware warning from "Microsoft" advising to call their 800 # to remove the virus. The malware freezes the screen and all functions, requiring a log off, user switch, or reboot. Neither AVG, MalWarebytes, Zemana or Webroot has been able to successfully quarantine or remove this virus.
Surely someone has a solution of some kind as I see web mention of this virus going back several years.
Anyone?
Thanks very much.

Constantly re-appearing Microsoft Scam, Webroot and other malware apps do not quarantine or remove

Hi benp,
Welcome to the Community.
In addition to Dave's excellent post I would recommend a good Ad blocker, if you're not already using one. ;)
They greatly help to reduce popups and annoying ads. I wouldn't be without one. The amount of annoying clutter they reduce is hard not to love.
Here are a few we recommend;
For Internet Explorer Ad Block Plus: https://adblockplus.org/
For Firefox uBlock Origin: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/?src=ss or Privacy Badger: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/privacy-badger-firefox/
Google Chrome uBlock Origin: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm?hl=en or Privacy Badger: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/privacy-badger/pkehgijcmpdhfbdbbnkijodmdjhbjlgp
Hope this info helps,
