I remember when TripleHelix and I joined this forum there were only a few members. It sure has grown within a year. During the end of last year TH and I communicated by PM’s about my health problem. The beginning of last year my white blood count was elevated. Another blood test was done near the end of the year and it was still elevated. I had a bone marrow biopsy done and on October 26 I was diagnosed to have Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. The cancer is in the early stage and as of now I don’t need Chemotherapy. I have found the hardest part after going through the initial shock of getting this bad news is telling family members and friends that you have it. I still haven’t told my sister because she has gone through enough last year with her husband passing away after 50 years of marriage. The reason for posting this is because I believe some members have seen a slow down with my activity on the forum. Just wanted to let you know Webroot is the Best and I’ll be here for the long haul. Some days are good and some not so good (feeling fatigue like having the flu). I just have to learn to cope with it. To bring some humor to this bad news, I drove for Schneider National Trucking for 16 years and got sick of looking at their Orange Trucks. Guess what the awareness ribbon color is for Leukemia: ORANGE!
Cheers,
Dave.

Great to hear that supplementing with Vitamin D3 has improved how you are feeling Dave. D3 tends to be overlooked by many medics but you clearly have a good GP who diagnosed your deficiency.
I am sure you are aware that having a diet low in carbs and sugar is the way to starve cancer cells but if you need any info just PM me and I will send you a link or two.
Hope you continue to feel better.
Kind regards

Hello Webrooters,
I had my 6 month visit to the Oncologist yesterday and the results are good. No change in the blood work. The leukemia is stable at this point. Hopefully it will stay like that. A person with leukemia (CLL) either remains stable or gets worst, never better without the help of chemotherapy. The Doctor said that the results of the blood work in the last few years, I'm a long way away from chemotherapy. About 7 months ago my family doctor did blood work on me and found that I was Vitamin D3 deficient. For the past 7 months I've been taking Vitamin D3 pills and it has made a remarkable change in the way I heal and feel with leukemia. I'm feeling better than usual which is good.
Thank you Webroot Family for your Support. :D
Great News indeed,

Hello Webrooters. As you can see I have changed the title of this thread. Yes we are both battling cancer now. Colleen went in for a mammogram on the 12th of this month. Tests shown an abnormal lump. She went in for a biopsy early this week. Tested positive for cancer. She will be getting a MRI this Tuesday and we will see her Doctor on Wednesday to discuss what will be the next procedure. Her older and younger brothers are also battling cancer. There is nothing good about cancer, but it's good that we've have caught it in it's early stage, I hope. We'll find out after the MRI. Thank you Webrooters for your support all these years. I never thought I would have to change the title of this thread. 😞

I am so sorry to hear this Dave. I'm really glad that she caught it early - I think there is a lot of hope when you catch it in the early stages, so good for her for being proactive about it. We're all sending you our thoughts and prayers!

Very sorry to hear this, Dave. But it's good they caught it early. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your wife. My mother-in-law, who's 76, was diagnosed 4 years ago with breast cancer. Hers was also caught early and she's been doing very well after surgery to remove her breast. They've made and are making great strides in the medical community when it comes to diagnosing and treating Cancer. Having dealt with Cancer in my own family, not only my mother-in-law, but both of my parents, various uncles, cousins, etc. I know that it is never easy and can be very overwhelming. Stay positive and know that all of us here will be pulling for you both.

This is desperately sad news, Dave...but as you say, hopefully catching it at an early stage improves the prognosis. Of course thoughts and prayers are with you both as you face this new 'challenge' together.

Hello Webrooters. I like to give you an update on Colleen's condition. First, it's been a long few months for both of us. Seeing Doctors and all types of tests Colleen had to have. After the Mammogram she had to see the Cardiologist, get a MRI, then have surgery. They only removed the small lump and tissues around it, also 3 lymph nodes were removed to see if the cancer spread. We were notified in a few days that the lymph nodes were "negative" for cancer. We were notified that she would have to get Radiation Treatments. We had a choice, by the large machine one treatment a day, 5 days a week for 6 weeks or have a Catheter put into the breast for 2 treatments a day for 5 days. We chose the catheter because of less side effects. The only side effect she has is fatigue and the Doctor said that the fatigue will last about 6 weeks. She is handling it pretty good so far, got about 1 or 2 more weeks to go. We were still worried about if she would need Chemotherapy Treatments. A visit to her Oncologist and the answer was No Chemotherapy. Cancer is gone. There is a 6% chance it could come back. If the lump would have been 1/16 inch larger than she would have to get Chemo. So as you can see we had a very busy few months especially while she was having Radiation Treatments. She had to get them at the Virginia Beach Hospital. That was a trip from home to the hospital of 25 miles twice a day. So we traveled 100 - 125 miles a day. Thanks Webrooters for your support. :D

Thank you for the update Dave and the wonderful news that Colleen's cancer is gone and no chemo is needed. 6% is a low figure and I hope and pray that as time goes by she escapes its return however it is good to see the strength that you are getting from each other.

Hi Webrooters,
Today I had my 6 month appointment with my Oncologist for blood work. We talked things over for about an hour since I had a few questions for him. He stated it's been 4 years now since I was diagnosed with Leukemia. The first few years with blood tests every 3 months and the last 2 years blood tests ever 6 months. He said that my blood tests are steady. I was excited to hear him say "Blood test once a year now" 😃 Although he did say any signs of any type of infections to notify him immediately. Looks like 2017 is going to be a great year for us. Thanks Webroot Members for your Support. 😉
