Hi Webrooters,
Today I had my 6 month appointment with my Oncologist for blood work. We talked things over for about an hour since I had a few questions for him. He stated it's been 4 years now since I was diagnosed with Leukemia. The first few years with blood tests every 3 months and the last 2 years blood tests ever 6 months. He said that my blood tests are steady. I was excited to hear him say "Blood test once a year now" 😃 Although he did say any signs of any type of infections to notify him immediately. Looks like 2017 is going to be a great year for us. Thanks Webroot Members for your Support. ;)
I just saw this, Dave. This IS great news. Glad to hear that you'll be around for many moons to come. 🙂 Hope everything is going well with Colleen, too. You both take care of each other and stay positive. You know that all of us here are wishing you both only the best.

That is good news @, I am not going to tempt fate in here and start jumping for joy though LOL you have had a rough enough time as it is without me making it worse for you. However with tests once a year now it is a really good sign and I hope at some point they will be able to give you the all clear.
I wish you and your good wife Colleen have a very Happy New Year with a massive upturn in the health of you both.

Well BD our weather is supposed to turn colder next week so we may start getting the stuff that you lot are sending in this direction.

I haven't updated this thread in over a year, so here's a little update for my many friends on the forum. Colleen and I are still here kicking. LOL. Colleen has been cancer free now for 2 years and I hope many more years to come. As for me with the Leukemia my blood work has been stable. Hopefully they will find a cure of this type of cancer (CLL). This last September was a bad month for me with two trips to the Emergency Room. One at the beginning of the month for very bad abdominal pain, which the found to be coming from my back (spinal stenosis) and at the end of the month for a very bad leg infection from the knee to the toes. To top it off I had a CT Scan with contrast and had very bad side effects from the contrast for two days. To sum it up we both are doing pretty good with all the medical things that are wrong with us. Thanks for your support Webroot Members. :D

I'm so sorry to hear that, Dave. I'm glad that Colleen is 2 years cancer free and that you're both hanging in there and doing pretty well despite everything that you've gone through together!

Thanks for keeping us all up to date with the latest. We've got your back.

Hello ProTruckDriver!

That is wonderful news about Colleen being cancer free for 2 years. You really did have an awfully painful September with those medical issues. That CT Scan with contrast is nasty for alot of people and especially when you have cancer. It must react like a poison in your system. My Mother has cancer and she refuses to have that done for many reasons....

I wish there was a cure coming for Leukemia. I lost a girlfriend when I was 16 and it's really can be a touch and go disease. I am happy to hear you are sustaining and holding on with this type of Cancer.

Thank you for updating all of us here Dave!;)

Hello Webrooters,

I believe it’s time to update this thread. As for Colleen she seen her Oncologist late December for her 6 month checkup and blood work. She is still cancer free.

I seen my Oncologist yesterday for my 6 month checkup and blood work. It looks like the “Watch and Wait” for the leukemia (CLL) maybe coming to an end. My Platelet Count is 96 now. During the time with this cancer my count was in the low 100’s. Normal range for normal people is 140 - 440. He wants to see me in 3 months for another blood test to see if the platelet count has gone up. I may have to take a pill once a day, “Imbruvica” generic name: “Ibrutinb” if the platelet count doesn’t go up. The pill is a sort of chemo, he called it the “Miracle Pill”.  It makes your Platelet Count go up and your White Blood Count go down. My white blood count now is 34.6 (Normal Range 4.4 - 10.9). I have to say I didn’t do too bad with this dreaded cancer never having treatment (Watch and Wait) since it was first diagnosed almost 10 years ago. There are some side effects to this pill that I don’t like at all, but we’ll see what the platelet count is when taken again in 3 months. Hopefully it will go up.

Holy smokes I had no idea!

Glad your wife is cancer free and wish you the best. Seems bizarre that you’ve been on “watch and wait” for so long. Hope everything goes your way this year and the next!

Here’s an update: As posted above in March of 2022 my platelets went down to 96 and my Oncologist was concerned. He scheduled me to see him in 3 months, that would be the end of June. If the platelet count remained the same or went lower he was going to put me on the Imbruvica pill that has side effects.

Now for the bizarre story:

In June 2022 about a week before my Oncologist appointment Colleen and I caught Covid-19. I had to cancel my appointment. We both went through hell with the Covid. She got over it in 2 weeks where it took me almost a month since my immune system is low with having Leukemia. After testing negative I made my follow up appointment that I canceled. Blood work was done and what a surprise! My platelet count went back up in the 120’s. I haven’t been sick in about 8 years and I believe that catching Covid gave a jolt to my immune system (little that I have) and kicked it into overdrive. Some of the other blood counts got better too. In a way you can say catching Covid was good for me??? Bizarre.

I seen the Oncologist about 2 weeks ago and I’m still doing good as I can get. Still on “Watch and Wait”. Colleen is still cancer free too.

What? I’m confused HOW that would work, but hey I’m super glad with the results as I’m sure you are!

What great news!

Oh yea my Wife and I got our 6th COVID Pfizer Bivalent (2) shot on the 13th of May so were good for another 6 months and at this time we don’t know what’s going on for the fall. Covid will still be around so we have to live with it.

I never saw that original post, so am happy to hear you are still around and that you are doing well.  I have never heard of Covid making someone better, but if there is this small silver lining to this horrific virus, I am happy to hear to did someone good.

I remember when TripleHelix and I joined this forum there were only a few members. It sure has grown within a year. During the end of last year TH and I communicated by PM’s about my health problem. The beginning of last year my white blood count was elevated. Another blood test was done near the end of the year and it was still elevated. I had a bone marrow biopsy done and on October 26 I was diagnosed to have Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia.  The cancer is in the early stage and as of now I don’t need Chemotherapy. I have found the hardest part after going through the initial shock of getting this bad news is telling family members and friends that you have it. I still haven’t told my sister because she has gone through enough last year with her husband passing away after 50 years of marriage. The reason for posting this is because I believe some members have seen a slow down with my activity on the forum. Just wanted to let you know Webroot is the Best and I’ll be here for the long haul. Some days are good and some not so good (feeling fatigue like having the flu). I just have to learn to cope with it. To bring some humor to this bad news, I drove for Schneider National Trucking for 16 years and got sick of looking at their Orange Trucks. Guess what the awareness ribbon color is for Leukemia: ORANGE!

Cheers,

Dave.

Hi Dave.

MAN, I am almost in tears here just reading this. Last year my wife was diagnosed with a cyst in her brain, and after test and everything we were very grateful when we found out there were no bad things involved here, although she had to undergo surgery to have it removed, 2 weeks in ICU etc, but very thankful that she had a successful surgery and well on route to a full recovery. You are in our thoughts and in our prayers, and wishing you only the best here and that all will work out for the best here, and that you will be able to fight through this and have a full recovery Sir. Always good to get “good news” and am glad you keep the fight against this up.
