I do not see the webroot icon on my desktop and am not getting updates.  Is my computer still protected by webroot. A friend worked on my computer and put bitdefender on it but is only good until 1/16/16 or something.  I am no longer getting updates from webroot.  Thank you, Susan Johnson

Hi okeedokey

Happy New Year...and welcome to the Community Forums.

I have to say that I would ask your friend to remove BitDefender from you system as soon as possible.

I am not sure if this is still the case but in the past BitDefender has been known as one of only a very, very few AV/IS applicaitons that does not play well with WSA. SO it could be that BitDefender is interfering with the good operation of WSA.

To check if WSA is still running you can look to see if the WSA icon (Green circle with a 'W' in it) appears in the notification tray area. If it does then you should be protected but if it does and the colour is other than Green there may be an issue with one or more of WSA's Shields that will need investigating.

If you cannot see it then most likely WSA is disabled, but as I said the first thing I would do is get rid of BitDefender.

For a more technical approach to checking please open the Task Manager (right click on the task bar and select 'Task Manager' from the context menu displayed. Once the Task Manager is open make sure that it is showing the maximum amount of detail (look in the bottom left hand corner of the panel for an indication of what state you are viewing it in). Click on the 'Processes' tab and then on the header of the column entitled 'Name' to sort the files & processes listed in alphbetical order, then scroll through the list to the 'W's and look for the following:

You should be seeing the highlighted entries above...if you are not then there is something wrong with the installation of WSA.
