Renewal is more than twice the cost of new???

I got an email asking me to renew for my 3 PCs for a year for $49.99 - but I can buy it new for $17.99.

Isn't that a little "much"?  Why would I not just go buy new?

Hello there, welcome to the Community!

It is very much standard among all AV vendors that I know of that the renewal price is set to the standard full retail price of the software.  Note that at times special discounts are available for the purchase of a new copy, and when that is true it does not carry over to renewals.  It becomes rather complicated to try to set renew pricing to the same temporary discount that new purchases may have.  (Note that this is not unique to AV vendors: most cell phone companies I know of routinely offer deep discounts to new customers ONLY.  Existing customers are not elibible.)

Also, please take careful note of what version is being sold at the $17.99 price point.  That sounds like a discounted single device WSA-AV copy, not a 3 device WSA-Internet Security copy.  You might end up having a new copy that does not provide the same protection as you currently have.

Do keep in mind that sometimes there are additional hassles in purchasing new.  Some features, like Password Manager, do not automatically switch over from one key code (as is the case of a renewal) to a new key code (as is the case of a new purchase).  Any exising time remaining on the old key code is not automaticlly loaded onto the new key code.

You are FULLY WELCOME to make the new purchase at a lower price.  Some people find it more convenient to simply renew, even though it might cost more, for the convenience.  Others choose to make the new purchase.

In short, the best answer is that you certainly can purchase the lower cost discounted new license, but please make sure that 1) it provides the same protections and features you have now and 2) you are purchasing either directly from Webroot or from a trusted source.  (Sometimes we see expired licenses being sold on Ebay or by individuals on Amazon.  It is rare but it happens.)
