I have a program I'm having problems with.
Its been suggested to me I might have a virus.
I also have Win8 which has DEFENDER.
But DEFENDER is turned off by default if it detects another anti-virus program.
I can turn off my Webroot temporary so I can try out DEFENDER ?
If so how do I do it and turn it back on later ?
thanks in advance GARY

Hello Gary and Welcome to the Webroot Community Forums.
First can you please remove your email address above for security reasons. Thanks.
Open the main WSA GUI and click on settings at the top right corner then the next window click on Advance Settings and put a check mark here and save all then go down to the WSA Tray Icon a Right Click on it and it gives you the option to Shut Down. But if you feel that you are infected or it's a False Positive please Submit a Support Ticket as full malware removal is free and I would leave it up to the Webroot Threat team to help you before going any further.

super thanks again
and it worked too !!!
and it worked too !!!
Great! But I would Submit a ticket so they can look after you first! And you can run both WSA and Defender at the same time by removing this check mark and save all! I have fully tested the 2 together and they work fine but it's not necessary as Webroot gives much more protection but it's up to you.

I like that idea a lot more then mine of shutting one off to run another.
I'll try running both ( not at the same time )
and I'll submit it too
but it'll have to be late tonight or tomorrow
I'm hoping its just the one program that is screwed up and not by system
I seriously doubt its a virus it really seems more like a conflict in that other program.

Great! You can run both as WSA is designed to work with other security software as I do run both in my Win 8 VM's and with no conflict! Again it's up to the users choice. ;)

this step did NOT work
when i clicked on Win8 DEFENDER it still said i cannot run it b ecause i had another anti virus program running
it said i needed adminstration approval
i own the laptop no one else uses it

I've now tried EVERY combinations of checking and unchecking the boxes of
Allow securityanywhere to be shut down manually
show securityanywhere in the windows action center
it makes ZERO difference. I cannot turn off securityanywhere nor can i run windows8 defender
short of deleting webroot do you have any other ideas ?
BTW i do not have the disk for webroot so if i boot it its gone for good.
as for submitting a file to webroot i have no idea how to do that.
It probably wouldn't work anyway.
hopefully there is a real answer here.

Also for support to check your system you have to Submit a Support Ticket and they will guide you on what to do next just put in the Title something like "I think I'm infected?"

Do you have the license KeyCode because I have the Download link? I think we need to do a clean reinstall but I need to know about the keycode if you have it don't post it?@ wrote:

OK uninstall Webroot SecureAnywhere reboot and Download the install file and save it in a location that you know where it is then Click on it to install and you will have to put the License Keycode in when it asks and let it finish a scan then it should show and Icon in the system Tray by the clock and please let me know the results. https://detail.webrootanywhere.com/agenthelp.asp?n=Installing_SecureAnywhere

OK IT NOW DOES LET ME TURN IT OFF
BUT I STILL CAN'T TURN ON WINDOWS DEFENDER ( sorry about caps typo )
i guess i'll just have to live with just running webroot
not happy with win8 defender
its not webroot's fault i now see it as win8 defender fault
i guess i'll have to chase down win8 for an answer

Great so if you still want to run Defender or need to turn off WSA for any reason just go back a follow the instructions in the earlier posts. :D@ wrote:

That's strange because I did the Following and I'm running both in Win 8 32bit & 64bit VM's.@ wrote:

I'm not sure what to say as I did a Google search and not much comes up for this issue and Windows 8. Maybe one of the Webroot Staff can chime in to help you further if you want to run both but IMO you don't need to as on my main systems I don't use Defender and only WSA. :@

The "group policy" message would indicate your security settings are managed by a network administrator. Your computer sounds like it is set up for domain management. Perhaps it's a business computer or formerly a business computer that still has restrictions on it. You would need to contact the domain admin to have that policy adjusted if it's still on a domain.
