I received a Webroot CD free from BestBuy when I purshased my computer, it's almost time to renew so I purchased theWebroot internet security complete cd from Amazon for 1 year and 5 devices.

Can I go to my account and renew using the key code on the newly purchased software or do I need to install the cd and do a new registration?

Thanks
Hello beaumont, welcome to the Community!

Changing from a Best Buy Subscription Software license to a "Standard" license presents a few unusual difficulties, but they are easy to resolve.

1) You WILL need to reinstall the software using either the CD or THIS LINK to download the 'Standard' installer.  Really there is no major difference in the software between them except that the Best Buy version does use a different key code set and it will NOT accept your new key code.   You may want to wait until you are on the last day of the Best Buy Subscription before doing this so you do not lose any days from your license.  To reinstall the Software using your NEW version and its key code:

  • KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a Copy Here OR have your CD ready.
  • Uninstall WSA and Reboot
  • Install with the new installer, enter your NEW Keycode and don't import any settings as you can set it up as you like once it's done
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot once again

2) Any remaining days on the Best Buy version CANNOT be added to your new key code.  When changing from one "Standard" key code to another "Standard", Webroot Support is usually able to do this but again due to the different key code sets this is not possible in your case.

3) When you are ready to activate the new key code, you will want to submit a Trouble Ticket to have any User Profiles you have set up in your Console  to the new key code.  Use of the Password Manager and Backup&Sync is done by User Profile and each profile IS tied to a specific key code.  These features will not work for you on any existing User Profiles until you have done this.

4) When you add the new key code to your Console, you will find that you will be forced to allow a new Console to be created.  DO not worry, this is normal.  You will still use the same username and password to log in, but again as the key code's are of a different family the Best Buy Subscriptions require a separate Console than "Standard" key codes.  Once the Best Buy Subscription is fully expired and you are having Support move your User Profiles to the new key code, you can have them totally delete the Best Buy Console while they are at it to make life a little easier for you in the future.   You can also wait to have this done until any time you are ready to do so.

That covers the major items.  Again, they are all pretty easy to do!
Hi beaumont

Welcome to the Community Forums.

EDIT: I see that David beat me to it...again! ;)

Yes, you will as the Best Buy version is different in terms of its licensing and the actual application...so you had best do a complete uninstall of the Best Buy version, then REBOOT, and with you new keycode to hand, install the Webroot version from the CD or you can download the very latest installer from here.

I am not very familiar with the Best Buy version but if it has and so you use the Password Manager fucntionality I would export you password data before you uninstall it and then you should be able to import that data into the Pasword Manager version that is a feature of WSA C.

Hope that helps?  Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Regards, Baldrick
Thanks, I never would have known.  I can't seem to find a link in order to submit a ticket to have the old console removed, could you point me in the right direction.

Thanks again!
