Analyzer shows active virus How do I get rid of it.

I would go to the main panel and click on 'Scan my Computer'...allow the scan to finish and then follow the instructions that WSA gives you as a result.  We need to know what WSA has found before more advice can be given, although often WSA will clean the critter detected into Quarantine and give you the option to remove the items or, if you believe that it is a False Positive, to restore them...hence needing to know what has been 'caught'.

Have scanned several times. does not detect a problem . But screen locks up and mouse pointer disappears. must unplug and restart.

Well, I have Googled "screen locks up and mouse pointer disappears" and this would seem to be a reasonably common problem but for a number of possible reasons...so lets get WSA out of the equation.
 
Uninstall WSA (making sure first that you have a copy of the installer to hand or downloading a new one from here for Webroot or from here if purchased originally from Best Buy), then REBOOT and see if you get the same problem with screen lockups & mouse pointer disappearance as with WSA installed.
 
And then post back here with the results.
