Application Protection

Why is it that the location for the Firefox browser under the Identity Protection -> Application Protection tab is shown as "firefox.exe in c:usersmeappdatalocal emp7zs4e67.tmpcore"?

The same entry for Internet Explorer is "iexplore.exe in c:program filesinternet explorer" which makes sense to me.

I have removed the above Firefox entry and used the Add Application command directing Webroot to "c:program files (x86)Mozilla Firefoxfirefox.exe" but it always reverts back to "c:usersmeappdatalocal emp7zs4e67.tmpcore"!

Can someone explain this?

Hello there ?, welcome to the Community!

That is really odd, as you have noticed.  On my own computer, Firefox is located just where it would be expected to be, so that does show what is happening in your case is not normal.

Have you tried to uninstall Firefox and re-install it?  You might try that, but make sure that you reboot the computer after uninstalling and BEFORE re-installing.

I would suggest that you do NOT import any saved settings or log into Firefox if you have created a profile in it until after you have added it to Application Protection to see if the re-install has worked.

If re-installing FireFox does not work, you can also try a clean install of WSA.  Here is our suggested method for doing this:

Please follow the steps closely!

  • Make sure you have a copy of your 20 Character Alphanumeric Keycode! Example: SA69-AAAA-A783-DE78-XXXX
  • KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click HERE)
  • Uninstall WSA and Reboot
  • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode and don't import any settings if asked to as you can set it up as you like once it's done
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot once again

If all of THIS does not help, then you might consider a Trouble Ticket to have Webroot Support take a look.  There is no charge for this for anyone with a valid WSA license.

Please do let us know how things turn out!

Thanks, David!

An important fact that I missed  is that I am having this issue on 3 computers, a desktop and 2 laptops all running Win 10 x64 and WR AV. Uninstalling Firefox and/or WR on all 3 is out of the question at this moment.

Now, on all 3 instances the Webroot padlock shows up when running Firefox just like when running Internet Explorer so
can I assume the WR protection is working anyway?

It still doesn't feel right, especially since it is ocurring on 3 computers!

I can almost hear the X-Files theme in the background!;)

?, yes you are protected, though I would prefer to see Firefox correctly listed in Application Protection just in case.  Being on three computers... is the router in the same room as your computer or is it on the other side of the house?

The desktop is ethernet connected to the router, the laptops are in different rooms connected by wi-fi.

Given that your one desktop is plugged in directly, the problem obviously is not the WiFi.

Other than it still possibly being the router, I am about out of ideas.  ? do you have anything I have missed?

I just tried your uninstall/install suggestion on one laptop and it is functioning properly now. Uninstalling Firefox by itself did not work, I had to uninstall WR also. I'll do the same for the others later.

It all goes back to the old IT trick: Out of the car and back in the car!

Thanks, again!!

Hi ?,

Not really but I believe when ? showed that issue with FF/ I did a clean install of Webroot and it fixed the Firefox setting in the application folder of Identify Protection because I had the same settings as he had mentioned but didn't realize it was a problem. But that clean install set it  as firefox.exe in c programs files (86)mozilla firefox..  So when I saw this post I looked and saw that this was indeed corrected.
