Best Buy wants 49.99 to renew webroot. Buying directly from webroot would be 44.99 for 3 machine license.  Amazon (I think direct, not 3rd party) wants 27.99.  Are there difficulties in replacing the Geek Squad (Best Buy) version with direct webroot or Amazon versions  I should watch out for?  Like do I need to uninstall or just eneter a new key code?
thanks

Hello Mark, welcome to the Community!

You have it exactly right in your last comment: changing from the Best Buy Subscription Software version to a 'standard' version directly from Webroot WILL require both a new key code and an uninstall/reinstall.  This is NOT HARD.  It only takes a few minutes to do, and we can give you directions if you need.

The biggest thing to know is that if you are using the Password Manager, you will need to contact Support to move your user profiles from the old key code to the new one within 15 days of the Best Buy Subscription's expiration date.  About 15 days after expiration the data may be removed from the server side.  Again, this is NOT HARD.  A simple Trouble Ticket  to Support explaining, along with the old key code and the new key code, and the email address(s) of the User Profiles that need to be moved is all that you need.

Remember your Best Buy Subscription is for 3 devices, so make sure that you purchase the right product for your needs.

  • WSA-Antivirus = 1 Device
  • WSA-Internet Security Plus = 3 Devices (This is identical to the Best Buy Subscription EXCEPT that you will no longer have the System Optimizer, but you will gain the System Analyzer.)
  • WSA-Complete = 5 Devices (This comes with ALL the bells'a and whistles, and has BOTH the System Optimizer and the System Analyzer, but of course does cost a bit more.)
As you already noted, make sure if you are purchasing on Amazon you are purchasing directly from Webroot or another trusted and authorized seller.  I have seen instances of expired Best Buy Subscription key codes being sold by private individuals on Amazon and Ebay, so do not get tricked into purchasing one of these... they will not work and Webroot cannot give you a refund.  Only the seller can.

I think that covers everything, but if you need clarification or have any other questions please let me know!

David,
Thanks very much for the quick reply.  I don't think I ever used the "optimizer" so I won't miss that.  Looks like the pc 3 machine license on Amazon Digital is actually  16.99.  I'd appreciate it if you could point me to the uninstall/reinstall instructions, as I'm not very confident of my technical ability in that area.  Never used password manager so I won't miss that either.
thanks

Mark,

Here you go!  These directions are universal as we have included both the standard download and the Best Buy download links within it.  Just use the correct download for whichever license type you are working with at that moment.

Please follow the steps closely!

  • Make sure you have a copy of your 20 Character Alphanumeric Keycode! Example: SA69-AAAA-A783-DE78-XXXX
  • KEEP the computer online for Uninstall and Reinstall to make sure it works correctly
  • Download a Copy Here (Best Buy Subscription PC users click HERE)
  • Uninstall WSA and Reboot  (Uninstall from the Start Menu or the Control Panel, Programs and Features, etc.)
  • Install with the new installer, enter your Keycode and don't import any settings if asked to as you can set it up as you like once it's done
  • Let it finish it's install scan
  • Reboot once again
I hope this helps, but again just let us know if you have any questions about it!
