Can a hacker posing as a computer tech , avoid being scanned after installing webroot ?
I had someone call my home several times posing as a cpu tech and then took over my laptop claiming that I had several hacker attempts . So i believed him and followed what he told me to do on the phone . He had me push down the white four square button and press r , then type in some stuff and click on his web link , which gave him access to my system and my computer has been running really slow and with lots of problems after !
That was a scammer and not a hacker there is a big difference. If you give access to him/her you are allowing them access to your PC no amount of Firewalls or AV software is going to prevent that. They may have put some junk on your PC but they rarely put malware on PC's. Please contact support and we can gather logs and check out what is going on. If you gave them any credit card information I would contact your bank.
This is a pretty serious scam that is going on around the globe. Scammers are pretending to be from Microsoft, or even popular AntiVirus software companies claiming to have detected a virus on the user's computer. In most cases these are blind calls. The odds of getting someone who has a computer or laptop are greater than getting someone who doesn't.
If you gave them any form of payment, or more importantly any personal information, call your bank as soon as possible. And, like was previously mentioned, submit a support ticket to Webroot so that they can check out your PC for you.
