Clicked on an image link for a color chart and got message to install Mac Cleaner

clicked on an image for Rust-oleum deck stain colors. Instead of color chart i received a message my mac was running slow and I should download Mac Cleaner and follow the directions.  Not about to do so, but the message window has locked up my Safari.  I can quit Safari but come back to the same issue.  Rebooted and re-opened Safari and I'm back to the same page even though my settings dump the history on a reboot.  Site address to install Mac Cleaner is xjwe3dgmz.scan.review.com.

Any ideas?

Hi t4berrys

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Not be a Mac expert my suggestion would be to Open a Support Ticket to get the Syupport Team to take a lok at this for you.  But perhaps our resident Apple/Mac guru @ might be able to shed some light on this and even have a course of action for you to follow?

Regards, Baldrick

Thanks.  I did that as soon as my Webroot Security scan locked up at nearly 99% complete.   Waiting for a response.

Hello 14berrys,

Welcome to the Webroot Community,

Yes I would follow @ advice and submit a Support Ticket. Even though I have checked this site
xjwe3dgmz.scan.review.com. with BrightCloud http://www.brightcloud.com/tools/url-ip-lookup.php and saids it is okay.

I imagine you are hitting  a website trying to get you to download fake software to infect your Mac. Turn on your popup ad blocker in Safari , empty the cache, and delete your history, but you say you have done this? Then in Safari in its preferences, the general section, unclick the "open safe files after downloading".  You should also update your system software if you haven't already. Have you changed your Homepage as well in Preferences?
Hope this helps somewhat. Kind Regards,

Unfortunately, whoever created this was very thorough.  Everthing to do with what you've suggested is grayed out and not accessible.  I've force quit Safari and said do not reopen any windows but still come back to the same ones anyway.  I have sent the issue to Webroot and am know search the Apple community for an answer.  Thank you for responding.  Wish me luck.

Tried the permission verify and reboot but Safari still opens with the same pages.  Going to make sure the family uses Firefox or Chrome until, hopefully, Support can offer a fix.  I'll re-post at that time.  Thanks for the effort.
