on my Ipad received a notice from Microsof / amittentand/furniture regarding threats to computer. Called # and got a lot of "Oh my goodness about the dozens of local and foreign threats that have infiltrated my computer. Got suspicious , discontinued call an ran Web Root Scan who removed whever threats were detected.......Obvious some kind of scam...they wanted to download a program to remove all the threats......this is scary

Yes.. and that is an incredibly common scam. NEVER allow them to download software or remote session into your computer: your computer WILL be infected with Identity Theft software if you do. You also would likely be billed several hundred dollars for the honor of having their malware installed as well.
No legit company works this way. Very good thing you disconnected and did not download the software.
