does the web root secure anywhere antivirus software actually scan the entire hard drive for malware and spyware etc?

The answer to the question is...'No' and I could wax lyrical about how and why WSA does what it does but this has already been covered off very well in this previous post here (you need to review the entries by Kit in particular) and also some additional information that will provide useful to your understanding in this previous post (here the entry by Petrovic is the key one).
