Has anyone had Windows 10 Defender turned off after a webroot update?

I have been running Windows Defender in Windows 10 with no problem until Webroot updated.  Now I Webroot will not scan on bootup and Defender is turned off.  Has anyone experienced this?

Hello there, welcome to the Windows Community!

Windows 10 will not allow you to have both Windows Defender and enabled at the same time. This is a function of Windows, not Webroot. The same will be true of any AV you install on Windows 10.

If you had Windows Defender active at the time you installed Webroot, Webroot will have become the active AV software, and Windows will have automatically disabled Windows Defender. In the event that Webroot is disabled or uninstalled, Windows will automatically re-enable Windows Defender and keep it turned on until you enable or re-install Webroot.

The default setting for WSA scanning at boot time is only if the computer was turned off at the normally scheduled scan time.  If your computer was on at the normal scan time, and you have not changed the default settings, then the lack of a boot up scan would not be a concern.

When you had Windows Defender running, Webroot would have been inactive.  Updating Webroot most likely re-activated it as the default AV on your computer, so Windows Defender would be off again.

Hi 618066

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Alternatively you can diable Windows Defender...whichis my recommendation and you should find that WSA is then able to operate although in some cases it makes sense to uninstall WSA and then reinstall it, just to make sure, as David as intimated.
