Its not a virus, set the option in your browser to go to another page when you open up a new tab.
how do I do that in Firefox? I went to options, tabs, and set when I open a tab, switch to it immediately.

In firefox settings under general set your homepage back to what it was. Under search set back the default search engine. If this doesnt work Reset Firefox from ("Refresh Firefox" from the Firefox Help menu option.
