I am unable to open an attachment from my e-mails.. I received documents from other attorneys, etc., that I know are secure and need to download.

Are you saying you cannot open a PDF document? Please download and install Adoibe Reader from here.

Also make sure you uncheck any add ons for they are PUAs!
