I have been using webroot for my windows systems for many years. I just bought a chromebook laptop. Since this is a different operating system--do I still use webroot for this ?

Unfortunately Webroot is not compatible with the ChromeOS at this time.
Because of the way that the chrome OS is set up it is already a secure system so you won't have to worry about getting viruses on it.
