Hi bluebee

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Please take a look at this KB Article on things that you need to know but might be afraid to ask re. Windows 10. Hopefully that coveres a lot of what you are looking for.

If you have any further questions as to things that perhaps may not be covered therein then please post back.

? i'd like to add a small bit of info on top of what ? has referred to with that link...

There are a few issues with W10 that i haven't seen solved yet and one of them concerns the moving from & to an external USB device of MP3's that corrupts the files making them unplayable. I have confirmed this issue on my system ( and i'm up to the latest build ).To bypass that issue i use the built in onedrive cloud feature or even the webroot's cloud feature that comes with Internet Security Complete. Don't worry it only happens with MP3's and not with any other format i know off.

For the rest W10 gives a better performance on the same hardware then W7

Having a backup of your data before you do the upgrade's always a nice safety net in case the upgrade fails but i haven't needed it myself.

Twice I've upgraded to Windows 10. Each effort met with disaster.

Don't get me wrong. Windows 10 is amazing--when it doesn't hiccup and there were numerous hiccups. What added to the pain is converting back to Windows 7 Pro was no joy either.

When I do update Windows 10 it'll be on a clean drive from the install disk (or USB) that you can download from MS.

Hi RBW

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Thanks fpr sharing...and sorry to hear of your issues. I suppose thjat it is no comfort to you that you are very much in the minority of upgraders reporting this sort of issue.

I would say that you intended approach is most likely the best one going forward...but if I were you I would also make sure that I have an full image of your system just prior to you starting the clean install process...as one never knows. ;)
