Hi ZTP

You are most welcome. Pleased that we could help in some way...just sorry that it was not in the way you were hoping for. Having said that I can certainly vouch ofr the fact that IMHO Windows 10 is the best OS that Microsoft have ever produced, bar none.

Hopefully, what with it being Xmas, you will have the opportunity to get yourself a bargain laptop or desktop computer and so be able to enjoy the benefuts of Windows 10 protected by WSA. ;)

Hi ZTP

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Yes it will as per this from the Systems Requirements over at the Webroot site, but do note that your XP system will need to be at the Service Pack 3 level :

PC & MacOperating Systems
  • Microsoft® Windows® XP 32- and 64-bit SP2, SP3
  • Windows Vista® 32-bit (all Editions), Windows Vista SP1, SP2 32- and 64-bit (all Editions)
  • Windows 7 32- and 64-bit (all Editions), Windows 7 SP1 32- and 64-bit (all Editions)
  • Windows 8 32- and 64-bit
  • Windows 8.1 32- and 64-bit
  • Windows 10 32- and 64-bit
  • Mac OS® X v.10.7.3 “Lion”
  • Mac OS X v. 10.8 "Mountain Lion"
  • Mac OS X v. 10.9 "Mavericks"
  • Mac OS X v.10.10 "Yosemite"
  • Mac OS X v.10.11.1 "El Capitan"
As I said check what SP level you are at, but to be honest (i) if you are at anything less then the SP3 level then your system is seriously compromised and I would say that even WSA will struggle to protect as well as on newer systems & (ii) whilst XP is still much loved it is now out of support with Microsoft and so will be lagging behind further and further in terms of being able to deal with the latest exploits, etc.

Hope that helps?

To up grade to Windows 10 I would first need to upgrade to at least 7.  I do not have the original installation discs or setup files for xp or this computer.  Will that be a problem upgrading?

Hi ZTP

You are most welcome. Happy to help.

In terms of Windows 10 I believe that you are correct in that the minimum upgrade level is from Windows 7. Having said that I would not recomment a Windows XP > Windows 7 upgrade route as I suspect that you might find the resultant Win 7 system a little unstable...based on my experiences.

Also I would expect that the (i) hardware that you have on your Win XP machine will be insuffucent to run Windows 7 or Windows 10 adequately, and that may well physically prevent such an upgrade & (ii) I suspect that there will not be WIndows 10 compliant drivers for the XP era hardware...so another probable block to theat approach.

In all honesty if you can afford it I would go the whole hog and look to get new hardware with Windows 10 as an OEM install. You will end up with IMHO a much better experience.

Apologies for not being able to give better news. :(

? know that what ? is very right when he says that it might not be a good idea to go from an Xp era machine to a W10 install on that hardware as you will face many driver issues. You can try but you will not find a lot of support on it. Now if the machine were to be Vista certified you'd stand a bit of a chance to do it but not without issues.. So better if you can afford it to follow Baldrick's advise & put a new box under the xmas tree. It'll run faster and without the worries of having to find drivers that'll run on your old box with W10. I've done it and i do NOT advise to do so unless you are an expert computer user.

Gentlemen,
Not exactly the news I was looking for but very much appreciate the information.  You both saved me a lot of time, money and certain frustration.
